Bugling? Rounding Cows?

Leaving for MT in a week. Need some inspiration! Bulls bugling steady yet? Starting to round up any cows yet or at least interested in 'em?

Watched a big 7x all day last Saturday, he didn't talk much and was pretty quiet about it. I think it was just to keep his cows close by. He had about 40 cows and calf's with him and a group of 5 spikes which he had to constantly push away. A 5 pt. ran over the ridge into the herd at one point and that bull quickly showed him who was boss, we never saw the 5 pt. again. He spent most of the day walking from one cow to the next just checking on them.

We were working on getting in on the action with the LE archery tag we have in our group, but the bull showed no interest at all in any bugling or cow talk we had to offer. He was content to keep what he already had, and didn't care for anything more. Might be a little different story next weekend though.

Good luck next week!

Thanks for the info. Looks like I might have some cooler weather where I'm headed, so that will help also. Either way, I'm getting excited about it. Hopefully by then they'll be getting really interested in 'em and getting a little eager to keep the juniors off 'em.

Nothing much going on in Judith River Game Range in the Little Belts, still to warm to bring them down. some reported Bugling but activity is very light.

Wasatch area around Strawberry they are going crazy!! Was there on Saturday looking for a spike and had quite the excitement going on. Bulls bugling all over- granted they were smaller bulls (270-290 class) Monday on the Manti La Sal and had bulls bugling in the a.m and at night, already rounding up the cows. I think it is starting! Gotta love this time of year!

Was up in the Diamond Mnts this past weekend and they were bugling, but still grouped up. Saw groups of +100 elk with multiple adult bulls.

Was in Cooke City and Gardiner 2 days ago and the action was slim. All of the bulls I saw were solo and not moving much, save one that had a dozen cows. I was fairly surprised, but I can't imagine it'll be long. Snowed 2 inches Sunday evening.

Here is some video that I uploaded for you in response to your question. This is from Saturday. At the end I noticed a spike was only 20yds away from me with some cows, (hence the camera being jumbled around). I was having so much fun watching this guy that I forgot I was hunting.
You can hear two other bulls bugling that were making there way up to him.
