New Mexico Unit 18 January Bow Hunt

A very good friend of mine drew this hunt and is fairly new to bowhunting. He asked me my opinion of the area and I don't have much information on this unit as I primarily hunt the Carson in the northern half of the state. So I'm calling on all you fellow hunters for (help)insights or info on this unit. Is this a migratory unit or are is there a significant amount of resident deer in this unit? Thanks! any info or comments is/are greatly appreciated.

I've never hunted it , but looking at it , it seems that the north and southeast areas of the unit could be good .I would call the Game & Fish and ask for the area game warden and give him or her a call . They are always pretty helpful . Also you may see what stores in the Socorro and Carrizozo areas sell hunting licences and give them a call to see if someone there could point you some good info . Seems like a few years back I heard the Malpais in between Wagon Canyon was a good deer area , my friend drew an Off the range oryx hunt and they saw some nice deer in that area .
