Not a monster bull but he is a pretty good bull for the area I was hunting. I did not see any elk in my spot for the last month and a half and thought I would try up the road about 4 miles. Boy am I glad I did. It's amazing how the excitement and the shakes of the moment are soon transformed into the sweat and shakes of your muscles after you finish the field dress and pack out by yourself. The only thing that remained the same was the smile! :)He is a 6X5 that I'm sure will taste terrific. I hope all of you other lucky draws score some monsters.

Good shot placement. Looks like you will be eating more than tag soup this year.

Very Nice. Pass some of the good luck mojo my way since I'm heading from Oregon to Utah in a day or two with my first LE tag and could use some of that success. Enjoyed the pictures.

Thanks for all the comments guys, it was one of the best hunting moments I have had for a long time. It has been almost ten years since my last elk tag and I forgot how I kinda get the shakes and queazy stomach after the arrow leaves the bow! There is just no better feeling than being 15 yards away from such a beautiful animal that just gets every muscle (especially the heart!) in my body going. The success is a bonus, but I just got reminded why I love archery hunts sooooo much!

Pointblank,
I wish you all the best for your upcoming hunt and lets see some pictures from your trip.I hope you get a monster!

Congrats. Nice bull and the do it yourself sure makes it more memorable!!! Not to say help is not nice, but now that it is over you will surely remember this one!!!

Thanks everyone! rmanwill, You know funny thing is for most of my life I hunted mostly on my own as most of my friends were not willing to go as far or deep as I was going so most times I went solo. But now that I have a couple of more recent close hunting buddies that share the same level of commitment (or more)as I do, I cannot go near where they want to go as I am 10+ years older (54). I can only sit back and wish I would have met them earlier in life. They draw their own tags and sometimes we can help each other out on a hunt and other times we have to tough it out on our own once again. It's a tough choice but the helping or being helped may be a little more rewarding to me (now)since it was shared with a friend with the same ideals. I thoroughly enjoy the self accomplishment of a successful solo trip but I think I would have to give the nod towards the having that helping hand. Maybe it is just that I am getting too old and too lazy, probably more so the latter. Thanks for well wishing! :)
P.S. One of those buddies packed out the bulk of a Barbary for me a few years back and then came back down in and took my pack out for me. That one may have done me in if I was alone. :) Actually, if I was by my lonesome I would not have taken the shot. That all took place 2 days after he packed his own out of the neighboring mountain range where i was not able to follow him! That one is my most memorable hunt to date!
