Morning,
I got all my paperwork done and now is the fun of planning my hunt. I got hurt on the job and walk with a limp and a cane, but can be fixed up with a new knee, but in the wait for that I did have the chance to put in for a extended 30 day hunt in a limited draw hunt. I can hunt until Nov. 29th. I'm kind of thinking about going around the 8th or 9th of Nov. and staying untill the 21st. plus or minus. The darn turkey day messes me up cause family expects me in Ca. for turkey dinner on the 23rd. I can leave earlier and if need be stay longer. I've had a few responce on when the rut gets into full swing and should be able to hit that mark, I know it can change with weather and all, but alot of hunting preasure will have passed by then also, I hope anyway. I need to find a motel to camp in and again I hope they have decent winter rates. I'm also thinking of hiring a guide or some one for a day to show me the area. What that would cost I don't know.
What can I expect to see on public land around Vernals? Any help or thoughts would be welcomed.

Yes Vernal does have several hotels, but with the oil field here it's hard to get a room so you might want to book a room in advance. The Weston plaza and the Lamplighter both have restaurants in them. Personaly I like the Weston. As far as the area goes there are some nice deer up there. You might want to look into some landowner maps because of all the private land. Are you planning a scouting trip? If so, let me know. I have lived here in Vernal my whole life.

I'll second the idea of booking your room early. Like now. There's a huge oilfield boom now and most if not all the motel rooms in town are booked continually as there aren't enough homes for the move ins so they live in the motels. The best steak for at least 100 miles is at the Weston's restraunt, Stockman's.

I am hunting Diamond this year as well. If you have trouble finding accomidations or would like some help getting a critter give me a call. 801-557-7599, leave a message if I don't answer.

Morning,
Thank you for all the responces, I am really looking forward to this hunt. I more than likely will not be scouting the area because I have almost 6 weeks to hunt, I hope that's the right joice. As far as lodgeing I'll have to look at the rates and see wants there, price is important to me cause of the lenth of my trip. I really don't mind bringing a microwave and small refer, I know I'd brake and have to grab a few of those steak dinners.
Jeremy, I wrote your number down and will be giving you a call.
Thank you
GARY
