Pet Bucks

Another thread got me thinking about the number of "pet bucks" that live in protected areas that we as hunters are not allowed to hunt. I know of an area not 10 minutes from my house where you can see 12 blacktail bucks on a regular basis. They are the topic of conversation through out July, and none of the hunters I know would poach one of these recognizable bucks. Whether from fear or respect, I don't know. Respect I hope.

It got me to thinking about other pet bucks I've seen. Walter in Lamoille is a good example. Ultimately poached and the hunters nailed the poacher.

Do you all have Pet bucks that you won't hunt? I think we all do...

It is sad to see pet bucks get shot. To the buck's benefit it is probably best to keep them wild. These are a few of our pets that were all shot by a worthless hunter.

This "pet" blacktail buck lived close to our hunting cabin. When this picture was taken we probably had 10-12 bucks hanging in the meat shed not 20 yards away, and this little guy came right into the cabin while we were eating dinner. If anybody ever shot our pet buck we would hang them from an oak tree! That's my buddy D!ck Bermuda, taken about 25 years ago in Humboldt Co. CA

That is a site! Seems like they almost become part of the family in a way. Too bad some will shoot them and call it hunting.
