I just drew a late modern tag for the Swakane unit. Any tips would be great. I sort of know the roads in that area but I'm from Western WA so I've never hunted it?

Good tag to have, its not the easiest hunt there is but alot of good bucks come out of Swakane. Pray for snow and get off the roads you should do ok.

Sure, rub it in.. Let me know how it goes, that's one of my choices.

I mainly hunt the Units adjoining Swakane, but I venture into Swakane every now and then. Swakane Canyon Road heads northwesterly off the Hwy between Wenatchee and Entiat right at the Rocky Reach Dam. This area is very dependent on the weather. If it snows, you will see a lot of deer because they migrate down through the Chiwawa unit and some end up in the Swakane Valley. One tip that I got from a guy that hunts that unit during the early bow season, was that if you can find a pile of rocks away from the road you will find a nice buck. Whether that is true, I don't know for sure. Most times during early November and through the winter, you will see a lot of deer if you get at least one ridge away from the Road. Last November we saw a lot of deer down in those lower areas in the late evening just before dark. So make sure you hunt the early morning and through the late evening. Good luck.

I drew the modern firearm late buck tag in Washington's Swakane unit which is just north of Leavenworth and Wenatchee. Thanks to all who have replied, keep them coming.

My son had the tag last year and took a real nice buck . I will check my maps and get back to you ( I'm at work ). There are several good drainages .

How about posting a pic of your sons buck for us all to see? It is a good unit but you are going to have to get off the roads to get a good one. Best of luck.

i had the Swakane tag last year. Most of you guys know that. I have a couple pics in the photo section somewhere. But also if you want to see a quick pic. Look in your Hunters Pamphlet where there are 4 or 5 pictures about the raffle hunts. Im in the upper left corner. 8x7 190 non-typical. Its a hard unit for a real trophy quality buck. But they are in there trust me. Its just hard to get to them and they have a lot of places to hide. a lot less roads than the entiat side. but they are there, just either get lucky and its in the middle of the road or put in the time and hard work, be patient and who knows what you might find.

Roaring creek ,Dinkleman and Swakane drainages . Bring good glass and as everyone says hunt hard . My son's buck is nice ,but I would put it on the bottom end of what you could get.For a sixteen year old it was a perfect 4pt with eyeguards. He could have done better ,but had a hard time holding out as he had already passed up a lot of bucks and had limited time . I have not taken the effort to post photos so why I learn I could email to someone who is already savy with the process .Garrett congrats on your buck . That shows what the unit has to offer .

Shadow- Thanks. What a fun but hard hunt that was. What day did your son tag his buck?? Also if you want to email me i can try and get those pics up for you. Ya that unit holds some big bucks, i almost passed up my buck, cause i felt i could mabye get something bigger. Crazy i know. Anyways my email is [email protected].

CONGRATULATIONS. That is a great tag to have. We suggest that you hunt at or above the snow level and don't ignore the Entiat side of the ridge. Upper end of Roaring Creek etc.

Here is Shadowstalkers Son's nice 4x4 muley from the Swakane Unit last year. Gotta love it.

Absolutely gorgeous photos. Shadow, how come you left us waiting for so long? Swakane does rock. Someday I will get drawn........grr.....

Awesome pics. They definetly show how steep it is there. Not a hunt for those that like the roads.

It was a rare day indeed . The night before was a storm and beside the bluebird weather the snow was powder and did not crunch . I will start posting picures soon

Garrett, Thanks for the post. I added the info to Jaime's photo and typed 06 rather than 05. Jaime is probably not too proud of her hat hair after removing her blaze orange.

Thanks for all of the replies. The pics are great and really show the quality of the area and the unit. Feel free to keep posting or send a pm.
