How would I judge a Coues deer if I want one in the 90's and above? Ex. main beam wider than ears, eight inch mean beam, 3 inch eyeguards, ect.

A 90" coues buck will have antlers that will be inside his ears just a little. 3" eyegueards, 5-6" 1st pts, 4" 2nd pts, 15" main beams and meduim mass. Check out this link http://southwestadventures.tripod.com/couesalbum/id3.html

The buck on the upper left is 83", upper right is 86", lower left buck is 90" and lower left is 95". The lower left buck has looses some score due to broken tines. A 90" buck is a good buck and a resonable goal.

I hope you guys with tags are going to post some pictures for those of us who dont' to oogle over.

From what I have learned, Ed is right on. an average mature buck will have 15" beams, 13" inside spread, average mass of 11" per side, eye guards 3", ears about 6 1/2", g2's 5", g3's 4". This gives you approximately a 90" buck gross. I think the problems come into the mass and main beam length which makes it so hard when glassing from long distances to determine if you are looking at a 95 -100 buck.......Just my thoughts......Allen
