KILLSHOT

Heres one of the bulls we pulled out of there this year. He busted up in a big fight that I was lucky enough to hear about three hours before I was able to make the shot on him but nothing that the taxi can't fix for me. Got a lot of great trail cam pics of this bull so it should be easy for him to bring those antlers back to life. What a great three weeks spent in the back country!

Way to go, that is awesome that you have trail cam pics of him to go with it! I love seeing pictures of the roadless, it brings back a lot of good memories. Nice buck you killed too.

Very nice!! Seeing pictures of the Roadless really makes me miss that place. Didn't get to go this year. Maybe next year.. Awesome bull.

Thanks for the comments guys. Any guesses on score off of the trail cam pic and the other two if he had not broken?

I'm guessing he will be somewhere around the low 360's once he gets those 4 tines that are broke fixed up. I will post up some pics of him fixed when I pick the horns up from the taxi next week for you guys to check out.

Awesome bull...!!! Just out of curiosity, in the roadless area, do youi pretty much have to have horses to hunt it, or could you just pack in...?? I'm totally unfamiliar with that area.

You don't have to have horses to hunt it. 99% of the time I'm never on my horses hunting but I would say they are a must to pack in a nice camp way back in there to stay for a while and also a must to pull your camp and your bull out once it is all said and done. We figured it out after we got out that we were in there for 22 days and on average put around 7-12 miles a day under our boots hunting. So in all I think we did just about 200 miles of hiking while we were in there so if you do go in and hunt off of foot I'd reccomend being in great hiking shape. Most of the time the horses were just left at camp.

How far back in would you say you have to go in order to get into some good hunting areas?

Thats kind of a loaded question but It depends which side you are coming in from and which season you are hunting. You can get into some great bulls 1/4 mile in and you can get into some great bulls 15 miles in. You will have guys hunting from the trail head going in and out every day and you will have guys hunting way back in with camps stacked up on top of each other all hunting the same drainages. From the south trail head to the north trail head and everything in between there is great hunting areas for the most part. You just need to put some time in there and some miles under your belt just like any other unit and you will turn up a few good spots that suit your hunting style.
