Flat top wilderness CO

I have hunted up there a couple times. What exactly are you looking for?

Depending on wich hunt you have and when the snow falls will both play a major part. a later tag means closer to the rut but also means more chance of being totally snowed out of the upper country. my best suggestion would be to make sure and get some preseason scouting done. also, what area are you planning to go in at and are you going to have horses? horses make things alot easier on you. But if you get everything dialed in and talk to the locals....you may come out of there with a monster. i know for a fact they are up there.

I will be hunting mule deer from oct 21 to 29. Looking at the east marvine area as a first choice. My dad was there this weekend doing a little scouting, he says that on one of the trails you can tell there are outfitters using that area. I think he talked to some of the people when he was up there. We do not have access to any horses at this time though. Can you hunt on sundays in co?
If you can give any helpful hints on how the mule deer act in that area I would appreciate it. I am familiar with whitetail habits in the east. I have been researching mule deer through books for the past three years in hopes of drawing a tag. But there is nothing better than first hand knowledge of animal you are after. Since I havent really seen any of the habitat (dad is sending pics) I am still trying to find out what the ddeer will be eating at this time of year. I know this area is heavily hunted, but I won't know for sure until I get up there.

If you don't have horses, plan on seeing pleanty of other hunters. Use that to your advantage by getting early to an escape route (say a low saddle leading to more remote country) and waiting for pressure to move animals to you. Sometimes this works. And yes, you can hunt on Sundays in Colorado. I suggest you get your hands on a number of mule deer hunting videos to get an idea of what the terain looks like and the type of hunting methods used out here.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-29-06 AT 01:47PM (MST)[p] I've hunted up there for years with mixed success. Lots of hunters, but a good amount of animals as well. What unit were you looking at?
