Any one ever hunted deer out there. I have lived and hunted all my life in Utah. Didn't draw my southern muzz. tag this year. My family owns property in Malad Idaho and am looking for somewhere around there I could get out and hunt. Not looking for exact locations just wonder if it is worth buying a northern tag or if I should just bag the whole hunt for this year. I am kinda bummed out, Didn't draw any tags anywhere. I went 0 for 12 this year on the draws

any info would be great.

Isn't grouse creek south of Oakley, ID? Thats quite a ways from Malad.

The hunting on the Idaho side near Grouse Creek can be good. Its a controlled hunting unit. I Know there is alot of private ground on the UT side. The hunting around Malad can be good also and there are non-resident tags left in Idaho.

Good luck to ya.

There is a bunch of private poperty out there infact I believe there are 4 CWMUs out there. Like most of the state it suffered from production during the drought years but has done well recently so there are not very many older 4+ year old bucks but a bunch of yearling and 2 year old bucks. The property is really checkerboarded but there is some good FS and BLM but in some cases access is an issue. Get a good map, its neat country and would be a fun place to scout and learn.

I hunted a CWMU im grouse creek 4 years ago. It was a tuff hunt. Didnt see a ton of deer and the deer that we did see were not that big. A couple of buddies camped with us and hunted the public land and were lucky to see a buck that wasnt being chased around by 10 differnt guys.I cant speak for the whole area, but where we were at wasnt worth goig back. If I can help you anymore just pm me.

I guide on one of those cwmu ranches and for what I have seen so far I would buy a good fishing pole for this season, the ranch I guide on has some really good bucks on it but the grouse creek range the deer are very few and far between.GOOD LUCK ON THE FISH.
