PA bull

My sister took this pic in Pennsylvania last week in the no-hunt zone near Benezette. The bull bugled dozens of times 25 yards from the road. She said there was one bigger than this one but she couldn't get a pic.

Seems like the common question on here is - what do you think he scores?

HOLY SMOKES!!!! I would not care what he scores. I would be shooting first and asking that later!!! That is one hell of a bull.

My Corporate office is in PA...Maybe I better start talking to them about coming out there to hunt! WOW!

Yep, he's a biggun. I think the pic makes his body look even bigger than it is because the bottom of his legs are behind the rise.

The odds are long to draw a tag there but some huge bulls roam those hills. They use a bonus system and not a preference point system. For every year you apply and don't get drawn you get one more chance the next year that you apply.

The real question is how many turkeys did Utah get in trade for that bull?

Hopefully more than 1000 :)

>400+. I want to see the
>bigger one. That bull is
>impressive!

really?
i mean it's a huge bull that i would shoot on any hunt in any state, but 400" +? :)

Id guess around 400 as well. mass, 7x7, point length on every point and its a monster bodied bull as well.

There are no big bucks in Utah! LOL

I dont see 400 out of this bull. its a huge bull but i can see mid 380s just cause of the good tops

LAST EDITED ON Sep-28-10 AT 11:25PM (MST)[p]lets compare apples to apples

here is an example of why I think the Pa bull is a 400 bull. This bull went 405 or something it is a 7x7

this bull is a 7x7

The Pa bull has more mass just as big thirds as the Az bull, It also has about the same length beams. Both bulls are 7x7's but the Pa bulls 7ths are way better. Then throw in the shear body size of the Pa bull. look at it! it looks like its on roids! look how long the bulls body is it actually looks like one of these with horns!

I actually think the Pa bull has a bigger body then the Az bull and it is making the Pa bull horns look slightly smaller. You can only see half the legs of the Pa bull.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-29-10 AT 06:06AM (MST)[p]I'm working in PA right now and I think I have a pic of that bull. A buddy took the photo 2 weeks ago and sent it to me.

Solid 380 bull in my estimation. Can't get 400 out of him either. Beautiful bull and I would not care what he scored if I saw him on a hunt.

I'm not one to get hung up on score but I don't think he is 400 either. At any rate a big 'ole bull that if he stays where he is will live another year.

Beautiful bull - if he isn't a 400 bull, he's as close as most hunters will ever see in their lifetime. Definitely 380 plus - big big boy status for sure. The pics are deceptive, his g2's are enormous and that makes his g3's look smaller than they should be and he carries his length well - those main beams are pretty long. I am not an official scorer by any means and have been wrong more often than not, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did go 400.

There are noticeable differences between the AZ bull and the PA bull. AZ bull has longer 3rds, the Royals and 5ths are way longer than the PA bulls. I would say the beams are longer as well.

The PA bull is a really cool looking bull with matching crown points, After doing some math I would put him in the 380s. To me his beams have the appearance that they are longer than they are because there is a fair amount of length after the royal but is relatively short coupled between the g2-g3 & g3-g4. Still an awesome bull and that thing has a gigantic body.

Thanks for sharing.

Who cares what he is. That bull is going to look good side by side to any bull. 400 or not!

I'm chiming in at a solid 390 bull and wouldn't surprise me if it was a 400". Guess we better start shed hunting in Pennsylvania! I'd love to know the 4th mass measurement. IMO that bull is an opening morning govenors tag with the highest paid guide in any state.

I don't think he's quite 400 either but what a TOAD ! Those beams are as long as any I've seen. Gotta be 60 +. WOW

if it was a straight 6 it would go 370-380 with the mass and main beam length.

The 2's are as long as some swords. its thirds aren't small. Every point also slightly curls in giving it more length but they appear to be shorter then they are.

Then throw in it has 2 extra points that are over 10-12 inches long on each side.

I hope we get a chance to see how big it really is keep us posted!

Well anyone can just pull a number out of the blue and say 390, 430, 412, 382, etc...

Lets actually see a break down of how you guys/gals come up with your numbers. Maybe let us know what you use to judge tine length.

G1 - XX"
G2 - XX"
G3 - XX"
G4 - XX"
G5 - XX"
MB - XX"
Mass - XX"
Extra - XX"
Spread Credit - XX"

My score

left right

G1 16 16
G2 18 16
G3 13 13
G4 15 16
G5 10 13
G6 7 8

MB 53 53

132 134

132 + 134=266

Mass 58 (Good H-3 and H-4)
Inside Spread 40

Total 364

First looking at this bull I thought 375. Those who thought this bull is close to 390-400 would be surprised, IMO.
Where am I wrong in measurements?

That's probably the coolest 7x7 I've ever seen, awesome top end. I would definitely take him. However, I don't think it would score as well as most of you think. The tine length is just not there for a 400 bull. Short brows, thirds, and forths; one long G2 and G5, the rest are average length at best. Main beam lengths are deceiving because of the sharp bend. From that angle, he doesn't look to be very wide either. One good mass measurement per side. I would say 375-380.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-29-10 AT 01:48PM (MST)[p]We're all shootin' from the hip anyway. Nobody can give us the actual score. We COULD break it down or we could come up with a score and match the individual measurements to the score. Either way we are simply throwing out numbers.

Go kill the bull and tell us how far off we are (or how close we guess the score). That's the only way to do it with any certainty. Even then I've had people tell me what their bulls score and they were not even close! But then, who the heck am I to question someone's score?

What's the point? It's a shooter on any day, in any State, on any unit, IMHO!

Would you pass it up?

Zeke

LAST EDITED ON Sep-29-10 AT 02:10PM (MST)[p]Your right, we don't know the exact score and will not unless it's killed and officially scored. All I was trying to do was see where people were getting the score from. Field judging a bull isn't witchcraft or luck, you can actually get really close if you know what you're doing. I see people throw out 400 on this bull and I was just wondering how they got to this number. I thought it would be interesting to see how people get their scores besides just looking at a bull and guessing...um...434! The OP did asked what we thought it scored.

Would I pass this bull? That all depends on where I was hunting and if I have found bigger bulls in the unit.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-29-10 AT 03:02PM (MST)[p]I have a friend from PA who is actually hunting PA right now with the Govenor's tag...
They know where this bull is but it is in a no-hunt zone as mentioned...he has a long hunt so excited to see what he comes up with...I believe he is hunting archery...
