well i have an elk hunt tomorrow in the gila. Only problem is that it is checkerboarded land and i wanted to take only a gps and not my laptop.

Well hunting fool offers software for your gps that tells you where the private is at. I located these bulls at the last moment and scrambled to get the sofware. Huntin fool guys said we will be to help you no problem. Well i had several problems getting the sofware and they were there to help me. Then when it came time to unlock the maps from my map source sofware i get all sorts of error message. It's now 30 minutes later than the first call and 345pm. Well apparently they left the office knowing i would be having problems according to them and here I am with a $125 purchase that is now useless to me. I will be leaving in 4 hours for the gila and I have no gps with "special" software on it. WTF?

Hope you guys all realize what a pain this is and just want to give you a heads up before you purchase this stuff. BTW...... It doesn't appear to be compatabile with brand new operating systems. Just blows!

That sucks so bad.

I'm in the mapping industry so I have the luxury of building my own custom mapsets before any hunt I go on. I feel for you, man.

Don't let it get you down. Just remember, you're going to the Gila and you're going to have an amazing time, regardless.

Ive had some issues with there software as well. They dont talk to u as quick after they already ran the visa.. Best of luck stinky!!!
 
thats a bunch of hs... i would hit every websight that does customer surveys and dog their gear so hard they would chit...
 
Tony, I don't know which of the options you ordered but about 2 months ago I ordered the card for Wyoming that just drops into my Garmin. It works great - topo, private / public, etc... I wish you luck ! Chip
 
i ordered the software download version. i explained my extreme rush before i paid for it. the guy basically said people have lots of problems getting the maps on the gps but he would be around to help me out. well i bot it hook line n sinker n gave away my visa.

now im hosed..... oh well live and learn......again!

Hey Stinky,

Just take your public land tag and hunt all the private property you can. Then when you see someone on a nice bull, run and yell towards the bull and scare it off. Give these freakin landowners a taste of their own medicine for me.

Procrastination. It will get you every time, I love it though when those who procrastinate blame it on someone else? It appears you have known about this hunt for a long time and was obviously aware that there was private property issues, this sucks for you but maybe next time you will prepare a little earlier. Good Luck!
 
I just looked up pocketoutfitter on my iphone, 19.99.
No ratings.....No way would I be be the first to try it at that price.
 
I have bought both Wyoming and Colorado from the Huntin Fool and have had no problems downloading the maps to my gps. Follow the tutorials. Peronally I love the maps.
Also, don't wait til the last minute!
 
SO, because you waited til the last minute to buy the software, you expect everyone else to sit around and wait for you and make sure everything is ok??? Do you also want them to bring t.p. so you dont have to tear off your sleeve?

I was under the impression you knew everything already Stinky....just go hunt and get a big one!! And hope its not on private land!!
 
Stinky, great to see you the other day. If I knew you were coming I would have had a tuna fish, broccoli, peanut butter and olive oil smoothie ready for you.

If you have not left yet, Kevin did my gps. Said it was a pain, but, it does work.

Let me get this straight - you needed a guide to kill your elk on the Dutton (and probably a hired sniper given your shooting skills), and now you need Huntin Fool to figure your map issues out for you. Do you need me to hold your hand while you wipe your A$$ as well?

Be a big boy and try something on your own sometime or subscribe to Eastman's-they will tell you how to DIY!! :)
 
you can download FREE landownership status maps from gpsfiledepot.com. Simple, foolproof and seems to be accurate data. data set is called "Western Ownership".

This map set is trans[arent and overlays any other map so yiu can see both at the same time.

I helped a guy get the data andthen QA'd it as he developed it.

Have used it in NM/CO/WY with not problems.
