Not the biggest bull on the mountain, but we hunted hard for 7 days. The hunting was difficult with the heat, and the full moon. The bulls just didn't come out of the trees until after dark. I passed on bulls bigger than this one, but in the end I just plain was getting tired! This big 5 stepped out, and I couldn't pass him up. I have always been a fan of big fives.
It was an adventure that I will never forget with great friends and lots of family helping me.

Being able to bring my 2 boys up for the pack out just made the experience that much better!

I would like to publicly thank the people that helped me. Dad, my brother Jason, Lane (for the awesome gun), Uncle Kim, Uncle Steven, Travis Black for the great calling and help with the pack out, Kurt B., and most of all my wife for putting up with me being gone for so long. I pretty much haven't been myself since April!!

Way to go! Congrats on a super bull. Love those big 5's....I shot a big 5 myself on the muzzy hunt.

Congrats! I had the fishlake tag this year as well, and we struggled also. Very tough year. Just when ya think you know how to hunt elk, the mountain humbles ya. Nice job, I think you did well.

Just havin those those two grinning young future hunters there to share your hunt with was worth the whole trip I'll bet. CONGRATS!

Great bull and big congrats on having the young ones with you. It will be something both you/them will always remember!!

You scored on my birthday! (damn, I'm getting older)
Congrats on a sweet hunt! Keep the boys out in the hills with you. They're our future.

Awesome bull!! MOON PHASE this year has sucked bigtime!

YOUR FAT!! DON'T TRY AND SUGAR COAT IT OR YOU WILL EAT THAT TOO!!

Nice Job Little Brother!!!!!!!!!

It was a blast to get to hunt this year...and it also SUCKED!!!!! This was the toughest year we have ever had up there. That moon and Heat made for some rough hunting! We had a blast and hunted HARD...I haven't walked that far in years! I think we all were HUNTED OUT!

What this story needs though is something that I was going to post for you but you beat me to the first post!

UTHunter was born on 7-7-77 at 7:14am and he weighed 8.7 lbs. 7 has always been his LUCKY number!!

Well....on this hunt EVERYTHING was unlucky....it was TOUGH!! As we got ready to go out on Friday morning...the 7th day of the hunt..we joked that it would be fitting if he shot his bull today. Well...that worked out. He shot this bull on day 7...at 7:49am at 107 yards!!!!!! 7 is for SURE his lucky number!!! The only thing that could have made it any better is that if it was a 7 point bull...but this bull did just fine!

To see the smile on his boys faces as the got on the horses to go back in and pack it out was priceless!!!! As some we get wrapped up in score...well his youngest boy put it into perspective for us...we got there and he asked him "what do you think"....his response was...."look at all that MEAT!".....he was just excited for Elk steaks the rest of the year!!!

It was all about good times....good company and fun!!!

Thanks for letting me tag along and have a good time!!! THAT is what hunting is all about!!!!!!!!!!

I also forgot to say.....after all the practice...the new gun...the new scope...the nice hand loaded 210gr Bergers....the scope dialed in at 1000 yards....the great shooting at 800 yards.....that bull sure died FAST at 107 yards!!!!! hahaha

I guess that is what happens.....but it sure was fun calling him right up to us!!!!

Congrats Mark...
It was a very tough hunt up there this year...
Good to see the smiles and the good times you all had..
And Jason, why didn't you tell me you had horses!!!???????

Way to go guys!

Check out the length on that third! We hunted Fishlake a few years ago and it ended up being a hot year and the hunting was tough. My dad ended up pulling the trigger on a 5x5 that was much smaller than yours but we were all smiles because we earned it with many days of hard hunting.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. It truly was the hunt of a lifetime!!
I just re-read thru my post and realized that I neglected to mention 3 other people that were a HUGE help to me. They are: Trevor G., Jeff E., and Scott C. Thanks Scott for keeping us laughing when the hunting was getting hard.

Hey Rick....John is right...those were Travis' horses. By that time I was so freaking tired I could not pack any more out....so we went down and got his horses, then Mark's boys got to go on a horse ride too.

Fun times!

Jason, do you think a dead bull cares whose horses he is being packed out on? lol...

We had to do it the old fashioned way, one pack at a time!!!!
At least it was only 1 mile and flat most of the way...
just razzin ya anyhow!

Very nice Bull with the heat and slow rut you guys did good.
Is that Travis in the Black hat. LOL

Congrats! My son was born on 07-07-07, and my daughter 13 months later on 08-08-08 in room number 8, at 8 AM, and she weighed just about 8 lbs. I will have to see if their lucky numbers are 7 and 8!
