I will be arriving at sundace, WY 3 mos. from yesterday morning. It will be my first out of state hunting trip. Cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Andy,

Congrats on your first out of state hunt to WYO. Are you going for Deer or Elk?
Once you are done and headed back home, the thought will hit you and that is you can't wait to get back there for another hunt next year or somewhere else to hunt.
Hope that all goes well for you and get a "big one".

Brian

My first out of state hunt was to Wyoming about 15 years ago when I was 19. It was cool hunting in different terrain than I had been used to and you see a whole lot more animals. Plus the size of the deer in quite different. A mature mule deer dwarfs a coastal blacktail. Not too mention they taste a lot better than the local deer we have here. You will have a blast and savour every minute of it!

My first out of state hunt was in Wyoming last year. What a fantastic hunt. My wife was born and raised there and her family still lives there. Its nice to be able to go on a hunt and make a family trip out of it too.

Here are a couple tips for your first time hunting out of state.

Take more clothes than you think you'll need. If you get alot of weather while you're there, some extra clothes come in handy. Especially if you get all muddy or wet. Lots of socks.

Make sure you sight in again after you get there. Whether you shoot your bow or a rifle, make sure you shoot before you hunt.

Remember!!!!!! You are a guest. Treat everyone you meet, whether its at a resturant or a gas station like you would like to be treated. Wyomings a funny place, they won't warm right up to you because you're an out-of stater and they get funny about out-of-staters. Always be as nice as you possibly can. Don't get me wrong, they're great people but there aren't alot of people in Wyoming and trust me.... they want to keep it that way.

Good luck and above all.... have fun.

Hey, Iowa, good to hear you'll be around in November. You going for Whitetail, Muley or either/or? AZWalker is right about the clothes part--it can get cold and snowy anytime in mid-Nov.,and you may be inhaling lunch in shirtsleeves, but if you're up in those Black Hills in the wind after, say, 4 p.m., it is going to get downright frigid. Hope you do good--and keep your coals warm!

Ill be in the same place as you in november iowahunter. Not sure what town we'll be staying in yet, but we are going to hunt mainly the black hills nf. part that borders south dakota. I hope to get a muley but I will shoot a nice whitetail if I see one. I was near the bighorn mountains for deer last year which was my first out of state hunt. Good luck, Im sure youll have a blast

Good luck Iowahunter. I went out of state while I was living in Iowa back in the 70s. We went to northwest Nebraska and had a great time. The trip there and the whole experience was just great. Enjoy yourself, stay safe and bring home what your lookin for!

I traveled from Florida to Wyoming in 1987 and 1991. I hunted the Kemmerer area and absolutely loved it.
I made a couple of trips to the Gillette area two years ago and saw plenty of Muleys as well as Whiteys. I think you will have a great time. Gas stations can be scarce compared to the East so make sure you have plenty of gas between towns. Also stock up on bullets and gear before you leave home because Western small towns will sometimes run out of these essentials. Are you camping out? Bowhunting or rifle? fatrooster.
