Took the girls down hunting spikes yesterday and came across a small heard of bulls. spikes have been far and few between this year on the hunt for us. Anyways, we found this group of bulls in the quakes about 75 yards away from us, I had the 2 daughters set up in front of me and as each bull came out I would tell them what it was, first bull a small 6, second bull 5x6, third bull 4x4, forth bull was a bit smaller, a 3x3 then the last bull 2 on onside, spike on the other, I am glassing hard trying to make sure there was not another point on the right antler. It looks like a shooter, so I tell the girls to get ready, as they were waiting for an open shot, the bull looks our way and I told them to not shoot, the bull had 2 main beams on the right side both beams about 2 feet long, the left antler was a 2 point, and the right side had a main beam in the front that was a spike, and coming off the back was another main beam that forked into a 2 point. wouln't you know it, so much for that opportunity, I told the girls no go, so we enjoyed the bulls for the next 15 minutes as they walked off. I got thinking when I got home, I got thinking was that bull legal to shoot, probably not, i am glad I didn't have them shoot it. But just wondering what others would do. Also a question on the 3x3 at one time the rule was the bull had to have a point over 4" (brow tine) otherwise it was legal this 3x3 was so small his main beams were 15" tops and the points were only about 2" nevertheless he was a 3 point so he walked to. I guess after many days hunting and not seeing any spikes I was toying things in my mind. Both bulls in my opinion not legal, we let them walk. Any thoughts.
