I have a question and I hope someone can answer it for me.haha
If you are traveling on a dirt road on public land and you come to a gate with a sign that says no motorized vihicles. You can walk in or ride horses. Can you also ride a mountain bike in?

I DON'T SEE A PROBLEM WITH A PEDAL BIKE!!!

I DON'T THINK YOU CAN RIDE THEM IN THE PRIMITIVE???

THE PROBLEM WE HAVE IS THESE UTARDS DON'T OBEY LAWS,THEY KNOCK THE SIGN DOWN,START THEIR LOWLIFE QUAD UP & CONTINUE ON!!!

THE ONLY bobcat GLAD TO SEE PEOPLE ASKING QUESTIONS!!!

Thanks for the reply. The gate was open all summer long and the week before the archery hunt opened it was closed and locked up.

Wheels of any kind are illegal in Wilderness areas. That includes even a deer cart.

This area isn't a wilderness area. The game warden said they closed the road durind the deer hunts, but it would be open for the cow elk hunters and mountain lion hunters.

Do they close the roads to keep the hunting pressure down or simply to keep the quads out? You still have access to hunt it as long as you are on foot?

The warden said on foot or on horseback. There has been some funny stuff going on with a couple of the game wardens up there over the years. That is why I was wondering what the laws were.

Make sure you drop by camp this weekend. I want to see some pics of that bull from last year. Good luck with the mountain bike issue. I have asked the same kind of questions from the fish and game and you get completely different answers depending on which officer you talk to. It would be nice if they would get their #%*@ together. It would also be nice to ride a bike in the area you talking about, talk about saving some time. See you on the mountain.

Nevada...
I've been involved with the public lands access battle fer years...
Yes, you can take a pedal bike in there, but nothing motorized.
Someone mentioned wilderness (which this is clearly not, see'n's how a road goes there) 'an in wilderness, no mechanical means are allowed.

Unless the F&G owns the ground itself, I fail to see what legal right a F&G warden has closing any road. You should call the county sherrif and find out whats going on. They'll be able to give answers.

Generally, in Utah, we cut the lock off the gate and ride our loudly piped quads in as far as humanly possible. Don't forget to leave pop cans and candy wrappers everywhere you've stopped and got off the wheeler to pee. Sorry, had to get a rise out of BESS.
I think the bike is a great idea, quiet, and you can cover a lot of country if you need to. We used them once in Montana on a bear hunt. I would, however, like to see your buck strapped to the bike somehow. That will take some engineering. lol

Thanks for all the replies everybody, Jeff I will stop by, I will be there until Wed., then I'll be there the last 9 days & the first 5 of the LE bull hunt. You are always welcome in our camp also. studpile - I think I will take my pack frame in with me too. I don't know how well it would work strapping on the bike. :) ha ha
