Most of the detail of the hunt are in another post in this forum.I will give the highlights. My son who is 11 made a 286 yd shoot with a tc muzzlerloader 260 grain deadcenter bullet with 125 grains of blackhorn powder. He spent months learning how to shoot so he would be ready to make shoots out to 300yds.Could not be more proud of him and how he handle making the shoot. His little leg was shaking when the guide ask if he could make the shoot. He sat down put the gun on the tripod and squeezed the trigger and the elk was down.Think he may had handled it better then myself not knowing how big of a bull this is.He is already bugging me for next year and saving ever penny he gets to help pay to go back.Hope everyone gets there kids into hunting and gets to enjoy the fun times just being outdoors.

Congrats to your boy and even more so to you for taking him out! were you on private or public? cause my father has a tag there in late Nov. the country looks very flat where you were. which would be perfect for my father. his legs dont do as well as they used to. any info would be appreciated.

he was taken on public land as the outfitter we hunted with does mostly public land hunts. Most of the land was flat on this hunt but was told those bulls pull back from the hunting pressure.this bull was about 3/4 to a mile off route 60.Saw about ten other bulls after my son shoot this one.Was still going out to teach him how to spot elk and to go hiking.I never thought the elk would be in the country we hunted like they were.Learn alot and how you do not need to always hike or horseback in for 10 miles.perfect area for kids or older adults to get to hunt. Not sure about the name of the area we hunted but about 30 minutes out of socorro.hope this helps some.

Way to go! I hunted the same unit during muzzy. Not so fortunate as your son. Congrates to the young man!!!!
