I have been drawn for the third rifle season, Nov. 4th -10th. Unfortunially, my hunting buddy lost patience and stopped making application thus I am hunting along. My wife isn't happy about me hunting along, plus I know it's not the smartest way to hunt. I assume there is no to limited cell service in this unit.

I will be camping out and looking for an individual or group that I might camp near. Don't need to hunt together just need to have party that knows what area that I will be hunting in and expected time to return. I'm age 52 in good physical condition with numerious western and Alaska trips under my belt. Last year I did a 12 day backback archery hunt in unit 81. Thanks.

if i was back from iraq and wife wasnt expecting a baby, i would go with ya for the hell of it. I am kinda new to colorado, seen some nice deer, but have yet to try to hunt them. It doesnt matter if i can hunt or not, its me being in the outdoors that i love. Anyways good hunting, if your around next year, maybe it will be a trip to go on, if i am not back in iraq that is....

There might be landowner cow elk vouchers available. When I deer hunted the late season in 10 in 2003 I know we thought about picking up a couple.Maybe a buddy could go with you if you could hook him up with cow tag. Masadonna tavern has a campground and a couple of small cabins that are very reasonable. It is very close to the area you will want to hunt and comfortable. Hunters stop in to eat and have a beer and lots of information there. I can give you the best general areas to look in but it is pretty easy to figure out. Get out there at least 2 days early and learn the road system so you can spend your time hunting and not reading maps. You may also locate a shooter down in the sage that you can harvest right away on the opener. That is a great tag and anyone that enjoys mule deer would enjoy just being along to spot and sort through the mature bucks you will see.gl7mm

Ultra300,

I'm in the same boat as you this year. I'll be hunting Unit 21 just south of you during the same week. Not looking forward to camping alone, but I can't wait to see the awesome deer in that area. Good luck hunting unit 10.

Best of luck in unit 21. Do you have any friends that know unit 10? I assume you are a bowhunter based on the name. I love to bow hunt--elk in Co and New Mexico and whitetail in TN and MS.

Tom,

I primarily bow hunt here in CO for elk and I'll be using a rifle this Nov. in unit 21. I was planning to use my deer points for unit 10, however I got impatient and decided on 21. I have a friend who was saving up for unit 10, but he decided to go for a 4th season rifle hunt in the Gunnison area. He now has 12 points and should draw his tag in a couple of years. He advised me that the Blue Mountain area in 10 was good. There's a large ranch up there that you can hunt near. It sounds like both of us will see a lot of nice deer this year. Take care and good luck.

I lived in Rangely for three years it is in the middle of the two units. Both of the units are excellent places to hunt especially in the late hunts. you could expect to see a lot of deer and quite a few nice bucks. good luck
