Jason--

This is pretty vague.... I think you need to be a little more specific not trying to me a smarty pants but...

what is some info?
what does good mean?

Utah archery elk is over the counter--in my opinion they can be 'good'.

If you are looking for limited entry units, all you really have to do is search this sight, look at hunterstrailhead.com review the odds--typically those that are the hardest to draw are 'good' those that are easy to draw (if there is such a thing) are not as 'good'.

The harder you work the luckier you get!!

There are some good Utah Archery LE elk units that you can draw for around 4-6 bonus points. Wasatch, Book Cliffs, etc., just to name a few. If you are willing to hunt long and hard, you will have an opportunity to take a 300-350 bull off many of the LE units in Utah. Of course, the best LE units in Utah take a while to draw, even for an archery tag. Hope that helps

As others have said, the "Hunt Draw Odds" page is a good place to start doing some research.

Thankyou for that info. Do you know how many points the san Juan unit takes?

Way too many, if you ask me. Most people with 5-6 points in 2010 drew areas like Wasatch, fishlake, book cliffs, etc. San Juan is by far the hardest archery tag to get, Pahvant is second...

Non residents for Wasatch were gauranteed a tag with 8 points last year. Pretty much the same for NR on the Manti as well. Both are great archery elk units and they do have the potential to produce some real giants. Average bulls taken on these units are around 320ish.

It's always an adventure!!!

what they aren't telling you is that most areas are becoming harder to draw every year, I was one point back two years ago, last year two back, next year? its almost hopeless. There is a small chance on the random draw, but its getting awfully tough to draw tags anymore.

Pipers right only if you're trying to draw a tag for a rifle rut hunt or one of the "premium" areas like San Juan or Pahvant. If you choose to go primitive weapon, especially archery elk, your odds are actually improving. In 2006 I drew the Wasatch with 10 points. Now residents are drawing that area with 6 or 7 points. They have increased the number of primitive weapon tags every year for the past 4 years.

Awholelottabull may be right about residents, but nonresidents have a different playing field, its a much slower process, and the numbers at the bottom are increasing much faster than are being worked through the system.

San Juan has 681 applicants for 1 max pnt tag. Your random odds are 0.03% based on draw odds here. That is 1 in 3,333.

Good luck

Not to be sarcastic but the point is a unit that takes 10 points now will take 19 points in 10 years, in 19 years when you have 19 points it will take.

There are usually about 100 applicants for each tag, archery, then add in that most have points and you can see even in 5 years you would be very very lucky to draw.

It is harder to find a bad unit in Utah then a good one, there are maybe 3 that are not great fyi.

Diamond is real overlooked, and a lot of people that draw the tag don't kill very big bulls but if you're willing to find the spots that no one else hunt... and its hard there's a lot of private, plus its hard nasty country to hunt, but we saw a couple really nice bulls this last archery season. Seems like everyone piled up in the marshal, there was a lot of elk in there but between the seven different hunters bugling their little hearts out that wasn't the place to be.
