Was able to spend the last week in CO with good friends hunting 3rd season elk. We hunted hard this year and really put the miles in each day. I owe a couple buddies big time for helping pack this one off the mountain. It was no easy task, but we got 'er done.

I was able to harvest this bull at 382 yards from my .300 win mag after wanting to look over just "one more ridge". Double lung shot put him down quick. He's a very symmetrical bull overall - very happy with him.

We were able to get this meat cooled out very quick with the snow and low overnight temps. Should be good eating too!

What do you think he scores? Not that it really matters to me, but I'm curious. To me he's just a perfect example of a good sized 6 pt CO bull.

really nice bull. but if your asking what he scores now. you are trying to pleas e the wrong person. go on ten elk hunts. enjoy the magic of these hunts '. once you get to. what does it score. you have lost what was priceless.

Thanks guys.

Elkun - I've hunted elk since I was 15 (so about 20 years now) and only missed a couple years in that time. Most bulls I have killed are spikes to rag horns (it is UT public land hunting after all!). I am not a trophy hunter by any means, I'm just passionate about hunting elk and enjoying the outdoors. This is my second year hunting 3rd season elk in CO and it's been tremendous for our crew. Score is ancillary - getting the animal cooled out quick and having good meat in the freezer for a year is more important to me.

Still have a cow elk and mitigation antlerless pronghorn to fill this year! Here's to more huntin'!

Im with you on that one...hunting with friends and family and having good meat in the freezer out weigh score anyday!
