My wife has a rifle tag for the bookcliff's.

Has anyone been down there this summer and if so, please let me know what type of bucks you have been seeing.

Thanks for your help!

I have seen quite a bit of nice bucks this summer. I drew the muzzleloader tag and should been able to give you more information when I get back out from my hunt on October 3. From what I have seen, it looks to be a great hunt htis year if we can keep the fires out of the area before the seasons.

Take care and if you need to talk further, get back to me at [email protected]

Congratulations on a great tag. I drew the tag two years ago so my information is not "as-of-this-year". However, I believe that unit has only gotten better. Hold out for a good buck. I took a 182 B&C typical after missing a true monster. Lots of pressure opening day but filters out fairly fast. Also, the deer are typically much lower by the late October, any-weapon hunt. If can't scout prior to the opening, try to go in a few days early. The "cliffs" are huge and you may have to move miles if the weather forces an early migration.

Again, this is a great hunt. Have fun and post some pictures!

I had a tag out there last year and shot a pretty good buck. We hunted hard and scouted our butts off before the hunt to find this buck. As we were going through the check station up by Strawberry, the division of wildlife officers were thrilled to see a good mature buck come out of the book cliffs. After talking to them for a few minutes they told us that 2 years ago there were a couple early storms that pushed all of the big bucks down to the lower areas and they were absolutley massacered!! They said that the people who had tags that year had the best hunt the book cliffs have seen in 20 years! I heard all of these great reports about the unit and expected to see huge bucks on every ridge, but we just didn't see it. We had no problem seeing smaller 20-22 inch 3 & 4 points, but the big guys were few and far between.

Yes that storm set back bookcliffs area a few years alot of big bucks was killed that year not just in the Books but all around the state. It might be a good idea to close it again for 2 years and get the right type back in there for a trophy area, But heck I would love to see them do that to the LaSal and Blues too.
