LAST EDITED ON Nov-29-10 AT 12:29PM (MST)[p]I have a chance of buying a landowner permit for NM 16A (I know the title says 16B, I typed it wrong). I'm just looking for some opinions on the unit from people who have hunted or are familiar with it. I am just beginning my research now and know little to nothing about the unit itself. Any info or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

yes its one of our states best 400" bull units. However the rifle hunts are pushed so far out of the rut you need to hunt the bull on their winter grounds. NM does not believe in a rut hunt for any hunters. Including the archers.

ego participate in Monasteriense muleys proinde ego sum bardus (I participate on monstermuleys therefore I am stupid)

Thanks stinky. What are your thoughts on unit 10? This is another unit I am considering, mostly because of budget and I can get this tag for less $$$ (which may be a deciding factor).

There is a lot more elk in 16-anything than 10. You really need to scout 10 hard and often to get into elk.10 has some good bulls but can be hard to find. This is the reason for the price difference.I would go bow or muzzy before rifle in 10.Hope this helps, Good luck.

Unit 10 might have a few Bulls But during the Deer hunt we saw a really good one(360+). But it was on private land, but if you did a long walk around to the backside of this ranch(8 sections) I was thinking he bedded up in FS land, everytime we saw him with 30 cows or so. Make sure the ranch you get the tag from Has ELK ON IT AT THE TIME OF THE HUNT.

"I have found if you go the extra mile it's Never crowded".
