I was thinking to myself what does a P&Y minimum score deer look like? (145)

When I ran the calculations these were the numbers that "made it work". Are they reasonable figures? or do I have too much in one measurement, versus another? I fgured it on a perfectly Symmetrical deer, but you get the picture I Hope!

Spread Credit Right Left Difference
Inside Spread 22 0
Abnormal Points 0 0 0
Length of main beam 21.5 21.5 0
G1 /(eye Guards) 1 1 0
G2 (Back Tine from First Fork) 10 10 0
G3 (Front part of back Tine) 5 5 0
G4 (Back part of Front Fork) 5 5 0
H1 Circ between burr and G1 5.5 5.5 0
H2 Circ between G1 and Main Fork 5 5 0
H3 Circ on back beam 5 5 0
H4 Circ on Front beam 4 4 0 TOTAL

TOTAL 22 62 62 0 146

those are huge mass measurments.

I would agree the mass measurements are way to big. A decent buck in the 145" range would most likely be closer to averaging 4" on the mass measurements with a total of 32" for the eight measurements. I think your tine length measurements are to conservative. Most bucks I have measured have over 10" G2's and 5" G3 and G4 are quite short as well. 21" main beams are close but I would guess that a lot of bucks that score exactly 145 are even shorter than that. When main beams start getting much more than 22-23 inches we are looking at a really nice buck. Inside spread is probably pretty close as well.

Good luck finding one in that range or bigger.

Here is one for you-------150"

A 145 buck will have less than 16" mass per side, usually. A 22" 4 pt with small forks will easily make 145. The 2 bigger bucks Ive killed dont really look like anything special, they are only 22-23 wide, but deep forks puts them both over 170 easily.......

Here is a buck I killed a few years ago. it was close to 145. I dont remember all of the measurements off hand.

The average desert buck we kill has mass like that but they score around 165-170 more often than not!

so.......they wouldn't fall under the "heading" of a 145" buck then would they.

If youre talking 5 inches of mass, or more per, your likey to find a better buck than 145 and well before youll find a 145 buck with that much mass.

Would you mind posting a few shots of those "average bucks" with an average of more than 5 of mass that score 165!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've seen one dead one like that, but I'd like to see a few more, that would be cool!

If you get over 40" of mass or more on a typical mule deer buck, youre getting into that stud catigory, no matter what the length of the beams. . .

Ok thats what I needed to know. The pictures help a lot. Sounds like I'm looking for a buck with at least 6" forks front and back. Truth be told, after looking at these A-Zone Blacktails all summer any mule deer looks big.

Huntercameron,
If your going to try and emulate the Bobcat, dont.
We only need one person on here that uses all CAPS
Also your not nearly sarcastic and original so it comes across as kinda pathetic

Huntercameron,

You must have skipped spelling at biolgist school.
