Hey All,

Looking to hunt bull elk in 2011 and am wondering what is the best trespass or drop camp or semi-guided/guided elk hunt you would recommend for less than $2000? I am a Utah Resident and I have a few Non Res Points (3 in WY, 1 in CO). Would prefer a rifle hunt, either early or late season, but would consider an archery rut hunt. I am physically able for any type of terrain/time of year. Any western state is pretty good with me. Not looking for a monster, just a decent branch antlered bull.

I work a ton and don't always have a ton of time to devote to scouting out of state locations. If you've had a good experience with one, have first hand knowledge, or just a helpful opinion you are willing to share, let me know what you think. Pictures are always a plus!

PM me if you'd prefer.

Thanks,

There is a guy that advertises in Eastman's and I think I have seen it on here-------

Southeastern Idaho Private land hunts for elk and muleys.

Unit 76 I believe it is that he has ground available.

I am thinking $1200 to $2500 was his asking price range.

Thanks Robb...any idea the name of that outfitter?

Keep the suggestions coming guys...much appreciated.

Check out Silver Peaks out of Cortez Colo. I think he's at $2,500 but that includes a cabin and private land.

I've got a great place for you, that fits all your requirements.
I'll send you a PM with more details and contact info.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-13-10 AT 11:49PM (MST)[p]Here are some in that price range on huntin fools hunt finder - http://www.huntfinder.com/search.asp?species=Elk&MinPrice=&MaxPrice=2500&a=search

I personally went on hunt 451 after talking to several outfitters. It was the first week of Sept, but still got into bulls and it was truly just a trespass fee with the outfitter providing great maps and information. Guy in camp killed a 5 pt and buddy and I were into almost elk every day even though the rut was non existent. Saw 2 bulls 300+, rest were smaller or rags.

PS - I think hunt 1 on that link is who Robb is referring to, when I called last year he was in 76 in SE Idaho. He was booked my dates or I might have tried it.

IMO it is better to spend that money on getting agood place to hunt (landowner tag or tresspass fee) or draw a better tag.

DonVathome, do you have any trespass or landowner tags that you recommend or have had experience with? PM me if you like.

Thanks,

Great premier area for elk and deer,(that is funny) notice all of those pictures are from years ago... More like a premier area to find 2 legged orange wearing animals that come out by the herds that no one likes.

There are some folks in Montata that have unguided elk hunts for $625/week and that includes use of one of their cabins. In 2011 your license will run about $900 for the elk/deer combo. They are in an area with general season hunts. Might be a good option for you. Drop me a line if you're interested.
