Elknut Chuckler Bugles

I have watched his videos & personally I'd have to question some of his calling techniques.....I took some of his advise & some went in 1 ear & out the other.

I know alot of it depends on the pressure, but still I question some of the calls! Elk that I've hunted lately are gonna leave the county with some of those "vibes"!

.....just my .02

Sold mine on ebay at a loss...for as expensive as they are, they appear to be made out of a plastic toilet plunger. Big and bulky for average elk sounds. Bought a Berry bugle and the elk I killed in Sept agreed that it sounded better.

Man, I don't even know how to really respond to these posts! All I can tell you is the Chuckler is a pretty good bugle all in all. I've had no issues with it & I've hunted with it for 4 years now & have covered a distance of 600-800 foot miles with it in my hand or on my pack, no issues & have called in countless bulls with it. The same applies to the 5 of us on the ElkNut Crew, we all use it & have since we came out with them! I've tweaked them a bit here & there but other than that they do well.

If hunt1 would have sent it back he would've received a full refund, not sure why he never asked, it's written right on our Site!

The Chuckler is designed for the mouth reed user in mind not the External Reed users, we only put that one up because so many asked for one so we did & have & sold quite a few with none returned. I believe hunt1 is not a mouth reed user therefore would have difficulty with any Bugle Tube? Not a slam at all just a thought on why he wouldn't be happy with it?

For the record this is the exact barrel & front mouthpiece tube that won the world elk calling championship by Joel Turner a couple years back, just ask him! Point is, the potential of it giving very good resonance & sound quality is there the rest is up to the user to do his part, we all have to practice to develop the needed skills to get the best out of any equipment!

If you own the best golf clubs money can buy this doesn't mean you're going to be a good golfer unless you put in the time & practice! No difference!

As far as the info on the DVD & CDs, well all I can say is check out this link & you be the judge! These are from just 2010-

LAST EDITED ON Dec-16-10 AT 02:09PM (MST)[p]Hey Elknut...I use both mouth reeds and the external ones (so no problems there). I just essentially said there was nothing special about the bugle and the quality of construction wasn't there. Looked like somebody used a box cutter to fashion it out of a toilet plunger.

Thanks for the reply! I just find it odd you would use a Thunder Bugle over your mouth reeds or any External Bugle, I would think the mouth reeds would be far better for you & your hunts since they're so versatile that you can make any elk sound with them an elk can & an external bugle is so limited in sounds.
Hey no problem but are you sure you're talking about a Chuckler Bugle that looks like a Plunger? I have no idea what you are referring too. Here's a photo of one!

I mix it up depending on the hunting situation...mouth reed when I'm in close as I bowhunt and external when I'm just locating. That's just plain silly of you to suggest that I use a mouth piece and an external reed at the same time.

For reference sake, you should post a close up of the quality of the bugle as to not give any preconceived notions of the craftsmanship simply cause you are proping it up on an elk. Show both the hockey taped end and the box cutter end. It's still a bugle regardless, that I understand.

"That's just plain silly of you to suggest that I use a mouth piece and an external reed at the same time."

I was referring to the fact that you choose your external bugle over your mouth reeds for the bull sounds! Most hunters will use their mouth reeds for all sounds, but to each his own!

As far as the Bugle itself, not sure what you're looking for? I do not like a Bugle coming from a store that is in parts, that is where you have to put it together. I like the fact that ours comes completely assembled, camo cover installed & taped with a black hockey tape on both ends so there's no slipping of the cover over your mouth that you need to move out of your way to use or the exhaust end being covered by the camo cover. The Bugle comes just like you see it in the photo which means the tone dampeners are also installed under the camo cover, it's ready to use when received! The largest hole in the end of the 3" tube is drilled out with a hole saw not cut with any sort of knife.

The Bugle will take abuse & is very lightweight, it won't melt-down if it gets wet or break if you drop it! (grin) It won't fall apart as it's all secured pretty darned good! Like I said I've used mine for 4 years now & it's still going strong, there are 4000-5000 out in use at this time!

Maybe you can offer me some constructive ideas as to how I should build these to have them be more favorable to a user like yourself, especially hunters who are mouth reed users. This is a serious question & no sarcasm intended? Thank You!

Here's a photo of the open end, it's the best I could find as I've not sat down & tried to take photos of it from various angles as no one has ever asked this before! This was this hunters 12th bull he called in before he took this one!

Ok, forgive me. Your bugle is the highest quality bugle ever made! You seem to be arguing that point, but all I said is that it is an average bugle that is not of quality construction for the price it is sold.

Just disappointed to spend $46.95 (shipping included) for an item that appears to cost less than $5 to manufacture! Again, I'm not arguing that this is not a bugle.

I think it is a waste of time to argue with this guy. He hasn't given you one piece of constructive criticism. He could at least give you some ideas for improvement, rather than bash you. I think your stuff is awesome!! Kudos to ElkNut.

I love my little chuckler, the sound is great , that is if i do my part, i have been known to not do my part some time. it fits next to my pack very comfortable. using elknuts methods i have been 100% on elk since the first tape came out. even if i wouldnt have put that many bulls in the freezer {all diy , public land hunting alone} i wouldnt have had an attitude about the equipment . elknuts dvds are a part of my mental arsenal on hunting elk. i might or might not have been able to figure some of the info on my own. but its allot easyer to get the information from someone who already has learned and is willing to help out.

I haven't bashed Elknut. Even he stated that he uses hockey tape on the bugle.

This is not a personal attack. Reread my posts...I just described the quality of the bugle. I follow the guy on bowsite and I'm sure Elknut doesn't need you to defend his honor. The man is a business man and is getting a different view on one of his products.

I have the Mini Chuckler and really like it. I can use the mouthpiece from my Abe & Sons (If I want to. It fits the opening), but I mainly use a diaphragm. Excellent sound. My previous go to was my Abe & Sons tube.

Customer service is 2nd to none for all products. (I have not had any problems with any products, but his response to questions and order turn around is fantastic.)

To each there own.

elknut,
say no more.I cant say enough about the little chuckler, it sounds great. I use diaphram calls and I tell you that combonation was why we such success this year. It goes for all your training videos to. they are the best out there. I have wore mine almost out. Elknut you have the best info out there if people don't want to use it than don't bash. If it dont work go back to your old ways. The more tools you got to use the better your odds. I say number 1 on elknut. Awesome customer service.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-21-10 AT 03:35PM (MST)[p]I have the Lil Chuckler and am very happy with it.

I really feel like the DVD I bought really helped seal the deal on my friends elk that we got this year because it emphasized that you sometimes have to be aggressive and go after them and I'm positive that bull would have never come to us. We shadowed him for almost an hour with me hanging back and cow calling and my friend moving in front everytime we got a response from the bull. We were rifle hunting but we were in very dark timber and my friend made the shot the first time he saw the elk after we had been dogging him for an hour. We ranged the shot at a whopping 37 yards!

I lacked any confidence in using diaphram calls before this season and ordered the Lil Chuckler with an external mouthpiece but practiced with the diaphrams that came with the combo and got pretty good at cow calling (that's what the bull we dogged was responding to - cow calls, he didn't respond to bugles). I lost the external mouthpiece after that hunt but ended up continuing to work with the diaphram and got pretty good with it. I didn't use it to seal the deal on my New Mexico elk, but I had several others talking to me on that hunt as well.

The chuckler bugles seem well made compared to the others that you see for about the same price IMO.

The best call in the store is the mellow yellow mouth reed though and it is only $5.95!

My only complaint would be the production quality of the DVDs isn't especially good and I found myself turning this sound up and down as I watched it. Calling sequences would be very loud followed by quiet talking then loud calling sequence, etc. If you aren't expecting a super polished production then you won't be disappointed. They pretty much seem like a couple of regular guys in front of a video camera. Good information though.

I really like my Elknut chuckler. It gives the most realistic sounds of any tube that I've tried in the last 18+ years, and I've tried a fair number.

BTW, I've used the Elknut tube with an external reed from time to time and it still outperforms the call that I took the reed off from.

Thanks Elknut!!
