My son and two nephews purchased 3 "leftover" youth encouragement anterless tags for the December 26 thru December 30 hunt. We typically hunt the northern part of the state and are unfamilar with unit 15. I've purchased maps of the area and have taken the kids shooting numerous times to insure they are ready for a a clean kill should they get a chance. Just wondering if anyone can give me some advice as to where to start hunting in the area. I was told the Fox mountain area would be a good place to start. Can anybody help me out? My son has been on one hunt but this will be my two nephews first hunt and I'd like it to be enjoyable for them. In advance, thanks for any suggesstions.

Wish I knew, I would help you out. Hopefully some of the fellow MM'rs will help you out. Good luck on your hunt.

Long: I bought my 9 year old son this same tag last year, we had a great time and saw a bunch of elk.He filled out the second day and took a shot the first day. This was a rifle hunt and 15 is usally bow or muzzleloader only.I live pretty close to 15 and know the area well. I don't think you guys will have trouble finding elk.The amount of snow (which is zero right now) can dictate where you can and can't go.The last few years I've had all four tires chained up this time of year but if we don't get any weather you should be able get around the whole unit..Around Thanksgiving my 13 year old daughter shot a small bull on a muzzleloader hunt we were hunting between slaughter mesa and mangus.Last year on my sons hunt we were hunting between fox mountian and johnson basin. I don't really have honey hole for cow hunts but I think I would start around fox mountian and work toward johnson basin.Look for fresh sign and when you find it go hunt, they won't be far.The lake to baca road would be my second choice.I hope this helps good luck.

I've hunted 15 the last two years in a row.I would hunt the N.W side close to AZ border, there is plenty of easy flat juniper type land that would be great for kids-if you want more detailed directions PM me and I'll put you right on them.

Had a group of friends who just came back from a cow hunt in 15 this past week. They saw a ton of elk in the Hard Castle Gap area. 2 out of 3 tagged out, with the third getting off 4 shots at differant cows.

Everybody who replied thanks for your help. My nephews, son and I appreciate all the help. Keep the suggestions coming! Thanks
