Just getting back from a fun muzzleloader hunt with my great friend Torch. We saw some great animals and enjoyed some gorgeous country.

I took this buck on the morning of September 11th. Taking this animal on September 11th, added a lot to this whole experience and memory. One of the cooler things that we experienced is meeting some people from the East Coast that brought an American Flag and displayed it in their camp during the hunt remembering that September Morning 5 years ago.

Here are some pictures... enjoy.

Torch still remains in the mountains chasing the bigger bucks. Hopefully he can close the distance.

Very well done. I was muzz deer hunting in
Colorado 5 years ago and it was freaky when
all the air traffic stopped. If you don't mind,
what load did you take him with? Nice buck.

lve2143,

I used an Austin and Halleck muzzleloader, shooting a 245 grain powerbelt Aerotip, propelled by 90 grains of loose triple 7 powder. Gives me close to 1800 ft per second out of the 28 inch barrel.

Thanks, I was happy with this buck.

'cow'....i would be happy with that buck, also...congratulations, and thank you for sharin' it with the rest of us...'luck' to your friend...

Congrats. that is a very nice buck. I hope I can get that luck this year, only two more weeks.

Great job Cowslayer! Now we just need to top off the year with a monster bull and you'll really be on cloud nine!

Sweet muzz buck!

Just got an update from Torch this morning at 7:30 AM. He was sneaking through the pines behind camp this morning to watch some open faces and snuck up on a big black cow (actually a humongous black bear)!!! Needless to say 60 yards with a smokepole in hand, he felt a little nervous and backed out of the country. He said that sleeping tonight might be a little difficult now that he knows a monster black bear is @ 1000 yards behind camp.

Hey NverEnuf, how did you do on your first deer hunt?

I hiked a lot of miles and hunted my guts out and the big bucks still won! The hunt was great and I learned a lot about the area. I saw a few bucks that really made me think twice but they were just not quite what I went up there for. Next time they've freakin' had it! :)

I actually had a big old billy goat hang out for a couple of days near my tent up on top. This was around 7 or 8 miles in or so. At one point the thing came to within 2 feet of me and sniffed at me for a second. I thought he was going to knock me off the rocks at first! Lucky for me he was just checking things out... Here is a picture of him from just a few feet away.

I wish I could have found a big old muley up there that was just as friendly! :)

Thanks about the picture Russ.

I actually had an early season high country rifle tag.

Did you pull any good muley tags this year?

I just got to thinking Chris. You're going to have one MONGO freaking taxidermy bill by the end of this season! How did you end up having your last year's bear done anyway?

NvrEnuf

Very nice! Congrats on a well deserved buck! Hope Torch lets the air out of one soon!

Shawn,

The bear turned out great. It definitely put the hurt on my pocket book, but I figure it was a once in a lifetime thing for me and such a great bear that I wouldn't trust it to anybody besides the best... Dennis Dumont in Montana. As for other hunts coming up I only have the Utah Limited Entry Central Deer Tag;) and the Late Big Bull Tag. I hope the early rifle and muzzleloader hunters don't kill them all before I get a chance at them. I just talked with a buddy who has been seeing a bunch of good bulls and a few great ones.

Here are some pics of the bear on the wall.

Great buck Cowslayer, can't wait to get over there. Speaking of taxidermy, I haven't received any calls from you yet. I don't feel the love??? Just kidding...Steve

Thanks for sharing your hunt with us, Looks like you got a nice buck. That Bear on the wall is pretty nice too.
