Here's the story I got, guess we'll have to wait to see if its true. I take all these with a grain of salt with all the high fence stuff posted all the time.

This was sent into B&C with the info below
Subject: MN Elk

Its green score is 456 4/8 NT net. Its gross score is 475 5/8. He has 78 6/8" of mass.
He is a wild MN elk that flipped upside down jumping a barbed wire fence on state land in Northern MN. His antlers stuck in the ground and been there a couple of hours. Ryan Muirhead while muzzleloader hunting and found him, he got help to flip him back, and the elk walked away. It was
25 below wind chill at this time. Two days later he went to see if it made it, but found it 600 yards away still alive. It died shortly later and was given to the Game warden who a week later gave it back to him.

What a beast. Love the mass, fronts and all that character on
this incredible rack. Truly a magnificent trophy.

ELDORADO

Awesome Bull. But I am having a hard time believing the story in large part due to the post saying it took place in Minnesota but a great bull regardless.

We do have a very small herd of elk in NW Minnesota. As in less than 100 elk but they have had a small season in previous years where just a few tags were given out.

Herd of 100 elk growing 450" class bulls?
Utah is doing somthing very wrong then!

LAST EDITED ON Dec-22-10 AT 07:54AM (MST)[p]The story is true, just got an email from a guy that was there. Here's what he said and one of the photos he took after they got him out of the barbwire.

He sent another pic of him tangled up but but I'm not posting it, sad way for such a majestic animal to go.

"this story is absolutely true, im not sure on the actual measured scores but as far as the elk jumping the fence and getting stuck upside down i was there and watched and video taped while the guys flipped him over. the people i was staying with that weekend saw that bull and 8 others about an hour earlier out in some pasture and then ryan and his party found the bull upside down in the ditch. it was the craziest thing ive ever seen and from what we had guessed that morning we figured the bull had to go at least 430 or more."

Seeing is believing. I know those guys up north of the border are mad that one migrated south.

not a very fitting end to that GREAT bulls life....kinda hard to believe the fish and game just gave him the head. good for him.

wow - crazy how his front legs are stuck there behind his antlers. Looks like rear leg tied up in the barbed wire? What a crazy deal. Incredible bull.

UNREAL! What a story.

This just proves you can't beat up on a guy with a wild story... some might just be true!

Thanks for sharing. Congratulations.

Thanks for sharing this story That bull some amazing character Hopefully he bred a bunch of those cows up north eh

Just to add a little info Minnesota does have an elk hunt. It is only open to residents. It is a once in a life time tag successful or not. I know the district rep for Minnesota and northern Iowa. In 2009 they saw 3 8X8 bulls and numerous 7X7's and there are two herds. The northern heard will move back and forth between here and Canada.
