Found dead bull elk?

Anybody come across a dead bull elk near the Electric Lake, Utah area after the archery hunt? 7 years of bonus points when up in smoke after a good hit and two days of tracking and gridding the canyon once the trail went dry. We're sure he's dead, the shot was most likely a little too high but still fatal. Still depressed and would love to hear if someone found him during the fall hunts.

...sure sounds like a good hit....

he asked a simple question in hopes to be able to find his elk. not for your smart ass reply you jack ass.

boy its a touchy place around here, say one thing and get your head ripped off........personally i'd have to agree with d13er, if he didn't find the elk probably wasn't the greatest hit in the world. If i might add something constructive beyond my opinion of the idiocy of hoofin's comment, it would be that if it was a high shot on the bull it probably ended up bein a clean pass thru. Had one of those this year on a record book bull. High chest clean pass thru two days of combing the mountain. During the rifle found him again had a blood stain on his upper chest but other than that was just ruttin away. Could never get another shot at him. it happens and thats hunting......good on ya for doing your best to follow up, my hats off to you

jeezus hoofin....does it sound like a good hit to you???.....zip your panties up a little tighter would you.

I have never seen so many "my lethally hit bull escaped in utah....can you help me find the carcass???" posts as this year.

I will apologize to no one for being disgusted. I know it happens....but jeezus, STFU about it. Season is over...I couldn't care less if he finds it.

You are right about one thing....I am a jackass.

Sorry to hear that you lost your bull. I hope someone on here will see your post that found your bull alive or dead.

What sort of frame was your bull and which canyon did you hunt? Seen several bulls on the spike hunt near this lake. Didn't see any dead bulls however.

Is it legal to go look for it now and claim it saying you shot it during archery season?
So many of these posts this year for sure.

CUPSY you're a JACKASS!

I don't know what it is on the years We have Late Warm Falls?

Just seems like animals are Tougher?

I'm with the rest of the Crew!

There were either more Hunters wounding animals(mostly Elk!) this year or more StickFlippers were admitting to it!

No,I'm not Blaming just Archery Hunters, happens with TARDS packing Pea Shootin Rifles too!:D

Nothin bothers me more than a wounded animal that's gonna die without being found,ya it's gonna happen, but I think as Hunters We need to take just a little more time on shot placement,ya,it's still gonna happen, just sayin, let's do Our best, these animals are perty much OIL,lets use Equipment Big enough for the job and give a Hand in helping fellow Hunters finding their Game when we can!

I hope you recover your Rack 4ormore!

Somebody somewhere might know something?

If you do lets give the Guy some help on recovering the Rack!

Sometimes all it takes is:I heard it from a friend who, heard it from a friend who, heard it from a friend...............

How can anyone say it was a good hit when they tracked an animal for two days and never found it? Congrats for the attempt at finding him, as that's what should always be done, but my guess is that you hit right between the spine and top of the lungs. It doesn't happen very often because there isn't much room between the two, but once in a while you have this scenario on swearing it was a good double lunger and not finding the animal. That's what sounds like also happened in the post by the other member who saw the animal he shot at a later date and it was fine. That is my bet on this one too!

Thanks for the posts guys. I can tell you, it's one of the worst feelings in the world walking off the mountain knowing you gave everything trying to recover the animal and still came up empty handed. Here's a few more details...

It was a 13 yard shot looking up a steep hill through a small window between the thick pines and angled toward us. He was a good 6 point, with strong fronts, probably a 330-340 bull. When the arrow hit it sounded like someone took a baseball bat to a tree. It was slightly high and quartering shot. The reason we're sure it was fatal (eventually) is because the arrow stayed in it, broadhead out the far side and fletchings visible on the near side. It barely flinched and headed up and out before we could get another in him. We gave it an hour and a half then started tracking. Blood was good at first but slowly dried up, just a drop here and there. We tracked it right up to a private property line in Coal canyon and couldn't pursue it further. We backed out, made some phone calls to get permission and never heard back from the owners. We even checked in with the DWR who were supportive and told us that we were doing all we could, to keep calling the property owner and if they hear anything about a recovered bull they'd call us. This was the second to last day of the hunt.

On the last day we called in some help, combed the perimeter of the private property and gridded out the surrounding canyon hoping he'd came up out of the private property and died on public ground. I'm sure he's dead somewhere on that private land and since we never heard back we never got in there to look, we were just hoping someone may have come across him who hunts that land. We always see people in there, just hoping someone will be honest or know something to put an end to the nightmare.

In any case, I know the chances are slim and I know we did everything we could, I just hate to see it happen to anybody.

I dont know if the elk I found was yours or not. I found a bull elk two canyons from Coal Canyon. This was on the rifle hunt. The antlers had been cut off.

Norm21, just out of curiosity, which direction from Coal? Any sign of an arrow kill? I guess the only way to really know is if the arrow was still there and recognizable.

Who cuts the antlers off of a dead bull, the DWR after someone reports it or some dirt back opportunist?

Got a Tip on a Big Dead Bull earlier this Fall!

Figured before I got the DWR involved I'd hike in & if it was still there I'd call the DWR in hopes We could find the Shooter/owner,was an LE Unit and was a Big Bull according to the Guy that told me about it!

Spent 40.00 in Fuel,Hiked in,found the Bull!

Some JACKASS HACKED each Horn off & YANKED the Ivory!

Sure woulda been a better deal to get the Rack back to the Hunter that lost it!

But thanks to a TARD that didn't happen!

Maybe its just me, but I hit a nice buck that was found late in the season on a CWMU. I personally didnt have any desire for the rack. To me if I cant take the animal whole I dont deserve the rack. That is just me though. If it means something to ya, hopefully someone can help out.

Almost agree with d13er on his second post, except he is not a jackass, but more like a real dickh__d.

Sorry you lost your bull, unfortunately it happens to the best of us.
