After a disappointing start to the season (didnt even see a caribou up north) things are starting to look good.
Went out Sunday morning looking for a nice bull elk for me. Heard two elk bugling aways away so we started giving chase, blowing on the hoochie mama occaisionally. After 2 hours of chasing them but never seeing them, they just vanished, never heard them again.
So we decided to climb up to this high knoll to glass the openings around us, just in case there was a stupid elk just standing there. After about 15 minutes of glassing we started heading down to the truck because we had company over that day, and we could not be late.
So, about halfway down the mountain my dad sees this buck, "get over here! big 4 point buck!" so of course as I'm trying to get to where he is, I fall. By then the buck knows something is up so he takes off into a small, but very thick dip. By then we thought it was all over.
But 30 seconds after he disappeared, he just walked into a clearing, broadside at 70 yards. BOOM! He's hit hard, but we still give him a few minutes before we look for him.
I follow the blood trail for about 80 yards before I found him. Didnt have my camera with me but I wanted to get some good field photos so we gutted him, then dragged him for an hour and a half whole, instead of quatering him up.
Tiring but very rewarding as this is my first BC mule deer, and second ever mule deer.
Can someone please put up my pics for me? My editing software is down right now. Thanks alot.
