Will somebody explain the Type 9(archery only) permit to me? Is is possible to get this permit for the areas open to the General Draw or are these permits only avail. in some units?

Only Type 9 tag offerings in certain units Only.

You can bow hunt any LQ tag or Gen tag with the $30 archery stamp........you can hunt the dates for archery specific by the units---Gen or LQ units.

Still confused. Sorry. I know I can bowhunt with the archery stamp but does the Type 9 tag allow you to hunt only in the area you applied for or all areas that have a Type 9 season? Also, does the Type 9 tag allow you to hunt earlier than the standard GD tag with an archery stamp?

LAST EDITED ON Jan-07-11 AT 04:01AM (MST)[p]Type 9 unit specific ONLY.

Most Type 9 units get two weeks before the with archery stamp Gen tag can come in and hunt----not ALL Type 9 units are this way though.

I would go with the Type 9 unit that is ONLY seasoned for Type 9.

Keep in mind if the Type 9 unit is also a LQ any weapon unit those folks can do the archery stamp and hunt the same dates as the Type 9 as it is unit specific.

Go for it and enjoy your hunt.

That's what I thought with that $30 Archery Permit, but there are some LQ Type 1 units that do not allow that permit to be used if you draw the Type 1 tag. Two are in the Big Horn Mountains for sure because they were being discussed in another thread.

The info needed is located in TWO places.
The NR application booklet will list the units, dates, and "type" of hunt.

The "regulations" are published later and include the tag numbers AS WELL as the units that can be hunted with the "archery license".

Most of us download last years regulations and look up the units that allow or don't allow the archery license.

go to:
hunting home page
down at the bottom: Commission Regulations
chapter 7 "elk seasons"
page 13

The paragraph will list those units that CAN be hunted on a type 1 and special archery license. If your unit is not listed it is NOT huntable by the type 1 guys.

Yep, and until you pointed that out in the other thread I had never even read that section because I thought it was just listing ALL the Type 1 Units. Boy was I surprised after hunting out there since 1994 to find that out, LOL!!!

I learned just like everybody else, I asked questions and one of the guys pointed me in the right direction. Just paying it forward.

Now then, 38 or 62 for archery?

I have the hard copies of the elk hunting regs for the last 5 years so if anyone wants a specific unit or something---

Let me know.

62 you could go back with a rifle and hunt in October.
