Are there any deer in Region "G"?

Well, I'm just back from another dissappointing weekend in Wyoming. That's two weekend trips now, plus a scouting trip and my grand total of bucks spotted is a whopping (2) two. I've got another trip planned for the end of the hunt, but am at a loss as to what to do, or where to go.

I haven't had alot of trouble with other hunters or that kind of stuff that you hear alot (maybe because I don't seem to be where the deer are), but I can't find a deer anywhere. I've looked high, I've looked low, I nearly sunburned my eyeballs out on Saturday glassing. I glassed from light to dark all day and didn't glass up one single deer, not one! Not even a doe. The one deer I did see that day happened to be about a 155" 4X4 that would have been dead meat had he given me a chance, and I just happened to glance up the hill and see him while I was going up the trail at first light.

So?? Anyone else having any luck. I hope your having more than I am, and I'd love to hear about it just so I know there are actually some deer in that country. Also if you want to share notes let me know, I'd be happy to tell you where not to go!

I had the same problem way back in the early 80's when i first hunted G' I'm afraid it's been too long for me to give any sugestions since I haven't hunted it since 93...

We were on the commissary last week hunting elk with our bows. The Elk and Deer had pulled out due to the snow. I grew up in Kemmerer..er..er..er and know this country well. Everything had pulled into the "mid range" migration areas. About 5-6 inches of snow covered the tops. I'm sure it will melt and they will move back, etc. Just has made for some hard hunting, especially deer. We did see one decent deer about 27'ish with some trash. Other than that, one other small 4x4 and a few does, in a week. Pretty bad. G/H are sure hurting right now.

Still don't give up hope yet. I've heard of some great bucks spotted further north and a few people I know have tagged out. Still some deer around, I just think the weather has messed it up a bit.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-25-06 AT 08:49PM (MST)[p]I recently heard some news of a whopper buck spotted after last season pushing 40" up commissary...?

I've passed on 17 bucks in the last 5 days. Saw 2 that were killed in the 180 to 190 range. It's better than last year.

I spent 7 days up there, only got to hunt 3 because of blizzard. Saw lots of bucks, no real big ones. My buddy killed one of the best bucks I saw, a 26-incher (pic below).
We were hunting quite high and the bucks were there. In fact, saw a 28 inch, mid 180's buck on one of the highest peaks in the unit. I was seriously considering shooting him, but while risking our lives getting close, changed my mind. I would have never gotten to that deer if I had killed him where he stood!!!

I don't know that many different spots up there, but if you want to give me a call before heading back up, feel free----801-808-4610. Not sure I can be much help though.

I'm headed back for the last 4-5 days. Leaving tomorrow to help dad with muzzleloader elk for a few days first.

Here's that photo. I spotted this buck on opening evening. Ohhhh, how I wanted to drop the hammer....but didn't. Just watched him at 80 yards as he stretched his neck, lick his nuts, and then got up and began feeding.
My buddy Marco took him on day 3. Marco was REALLY happy that I had some Wolfley Horses to haul that buck out of there too!!!!!
Marco was thrilled to kill that buck. Was fun.
