Well Boys & Girls!

Looks as if the number of 400" Bulls taken in 2010 was way down from previous years!

We've seen it coming for a few years!

The Management only SUCKS worse by the year!

Just when you think you've seen it all, they pull even stupider stuff off than in previous years!

As I said 3 years ago,I shoulda bailed & settled for a 340"-350" Bull,but I didn't listen to myself!

Now I'm sitting here with a few Elk points that ain't worth the paper they're printed on!

OH BUT BY GAWD THE OPPORTUNITY!}>}>}>

Come on Bess, they killed 5 or 10 400" bulls this year. A couple years ago there were 15-20 killed.

I'd wager when you started putting in there were 0 - ZERO - 400 inch bulls killed that year. So when you started putting in you hoped to kill a 380 max and would have probably been happy with a 350. Spend those points and go hunt. You ain't getting any younger!

Bess you sound like Glen Beck more and more everyday! EVERYthing is doom & gloom for you. No one likes a frowning face change it to a smile!

like you didnt try and get a tag. what else were you going to do bail and opt for a archery tag. Well that would have still probably taken you 17 years. Just look at how long it took c3 to get a tag.

Ya the system sucks and is getting worse especially with the changes they just made. Its now a once in never..

If bowhunting was easy rifle hunters would do it...

Oh come on Bessy, you sound like your making excuses and giving up already.
I know of multiple 400 bulls killed this year, and I know of at least 4 that got away.
Draw your tag and go hunt, be happy with the experience. You have gotten caught up in the 400 mania.

Strap on your boots and head into elk country, there are monsters still out there...but be happy with the journey. We will all follow along and pat you on the back no matter the score.

But ya better do it soon, we are killing the biggest elk every year, eventually those big genes will be gone.

Not so!

Everybody that had a Tag last year was caught up in the 400" mania/HYPE,not me!

Hell,a 395" PISSCUTTER would be big enough for me,lol!:D

Don't know how much you get out & about bowhunt?

But if you haven't seen a change in the last couple of years you're not getting out enough!

CAT what did I tell you 5 years ago??? Remember when I told you that in the near future a 350 - 360 bull would be a punk according to you inch freaks???

Looks like we are here ain't we!!!!

And wiley???

What have I been telling you the last several years?

For the last 3-4 years I've been telling you the same ole stuff!

I told you if they keep poundin Cows in LE Units it would start falling fast!

I told you if they issued more Tags than they should the Units would even suffer more!

I told you it wouldn't be long & a 340"-350" Bull would be a top end Bull,We're almost there wiley!

I told you huntin Spikes/PISSCUTTERS in an LE Unit is total BULLSHIZZZ!

I told you this would create an un-healthy herd, you still listening ww?

I've told you many times, not every TARD in the State can hunt LE Units every damn year!

I've told you many times, the 4-4.5 year old age objectives is total BULLSHIZZZ!

I've told you lots of things, don't know if you listened to any of them, but listen to this next one closely!

I have no desire to Harvest a DINK/PISSCUTTER 320" Bull,I'll burn my Points literally with a match before I ever shoot a Bull at a young age that might have potential of being a Big Bull if he can just live a few years in an LE Unit!

No,I don't need a 400" Bull niether, but it sure would be nice to be hunting where there was a chance!

I didn't see you at the Expo yesterday wiley?

HA HA CAT!!!!! You'll NEVER see me at the Expo!!!!!

If ya just want a 400 inch bull Go to a Ranch and buy one.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-06-11 AT 01:35PM (MST)[p]Bobcat,
You did not read my post very close. There are 400 bulls out there, I have seen them, and they are alive and well.

NOT AS MANY AS BEFORE, that is for sure.

Believe me I get out. I have been looking at elk 5 day a week.

Cash in those points and go have fun!!!! A 350 bull is a monster, not as big as my Utah LE Elk, :) but a monster.

You simple cannot shoot the top end bulls every year and expect there to be some left after 10 years, and the cow slaughter is certainly preventing us from creating more.

GO HUNT! Have fun, but hurry.

Still so mad you won't even Gamble huh ww?

I don't "just want a 400 inch bull Go to a Ranch and buy one."

There's more to a Hunt than that kinda BS!

The Ranches have their places, just thought I'd add that before somebody jumps me on it,just not my cup of tea!

The time I have enough points to draw a Tag ww,I'll have more money invested than Buying a Ranch Bull, and my points won't be worth the paper they're printed on here shortly!:D

So ww?

I take it you've decided not to participate in any kind of Draws, not even the upcoming Big Game draw?

Talk to us ww!

bowhunt!

It has nothing to do with shooting Top End Bulls every year, sounds like you shot a Top End Bull, sure hope you feel bad about it?:D

PAY CLOSE GOSH DAMN ATTENTION!

When you start shooting too many top end Bulls is when your ass is in big trouble!

Along with other stupid management we have going!

No whine at all JACKASS!

You'd best pay attention!

What kinda DINK Bull do you wanna shoot in the near Future?

It is time you started paying attention Bop, your screaming intimidation tactics don't work with me.

We are shooting too many top end bulls! PERIOD. Why, cause we can for hell sakes. Who wants to draw a tag and shoot a dink? NOONE

We hunt bulls, at the perfect time to kill the big ones, and guess what it take more than age to make a big one, it also take Genetics and Feed.

I just had a chat with 2 of my friends that run Hunting Ranches in Idaho, as you can imagine they shoot giant elk every year, but they do NOT allow people to shoot the couple 440 bulls they have. Why? Cause they need their sperm.

We don't have that luxury on public ground, and I sure as hell have never heard a guide or an individual say "don't shoot that one, he is too big, we need his genetics" Instead we always shoot the biggest ones.

We need to make it harder to kill those big ones, IF WE WANT TO CONTINUE WITH 400 inch bulls. Like I said, if we want to.

More later, I want to watch the super bowl.
We are saying the same thing, your just too bull headed to listen. :)

Pay attention bowhunt!

You've never heard me scream yet!:D

Killing top end Bulls ain't a problem, unless you start killing all of them(Too many tags, get it?)

Knocking age objectives down to 4-4.5 is major problem!

I'm not Bull Headed!:D

You just made me spew hot wings out my nose. Your not bullheaded? LOL
We are killing too many big bulls I will give you that. I think we disagree on why.

Doesn't really matter if we disagree on why!

If it's happening for any reason it's total BS!

I remember when LE Elk hunts were Quality Hunts!

Now they're a damn Circus!

They'll turn it in to another Pumpkin Patch hunt before long!

I have no idea of when or how long the seasons are, but is it a matter of hunting the bulls when they are the most vulnerable? Comparing whitetail to elk is apples to oranges but here in MN we blast all our good bucks because firearm season is during the peak of the rut? At least if they are killed after the rut they've passed on their genes.

Mike

If you keep the Genes in the Herd it won't matter if a 300" bull does the Breeding!

But for GAWDS sake let's start managing them in a professional like manor!

I hear a lot of moaning about the quality of bulls in UT but it doesn't seem like anyone is doing much to try and change things! It seems like it wouldn't take too terribly long to turn things around if UT changed their age class objectives back to where they were several years ago? 4-5 year old age class objective units aren't exactly going to grow many 400 class bulls! It may be time for Utah residents to get together and lobby against the current age class objectives rather than pointing fingers!

If my memory is correct there were a lot of guys on this website that raised h$ll about not drawing LE tags a few years ago and wanted more tags available. Now that quality is deteriorating there seems to be a lot of whining about few giant bulls!

It's pretty obvious that rifle seasons during prime rut aren't doing squat for the quality of bulls available. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure most of these things out!

LAST EDITED ON Feb-07-11 AT 00:18AM (MST)[p]LAST EDITED ON Feb-06-11 AT 11:57?PM (MST)

I really do not think it is as bad as Bob is making it sound. Read what Berryblaster is saying about the wasatch, and it is hunted harder than any unit.
There are fewer giant bulls that is for sure, but I believe there are NOT too many hunters. We are just hunting them wrong. We are killing the biggest bulls every year on every unit because we have put in place a high success system.
Just cutting big bull tags is not the answer.
So yes Bobcat how we got here matters greatly. We have to know why so we know how to fix it.
One more thing. Why is it that the San Juan unit seems to be improving in the age of elk killed, but the size of elk is worse?

Once again bowhunt, you need to spend time on the SJ!

You don't have a clue to how many cows have been slaughtered on that Unit!

Winter before this Winter had to take a Toll on all Game in that area!

I remember Top Quality Hunts on SJ just a few years back and now it's a damn Circus,Please explain why too many tags issued is a good thing?

Don't know if you're Familiar with what happened to the Deer Herd on SJ over the last 40 years? This kinda sshit don't work(mismanagement!)why start trying stupid management on a Trophy Elk Unit,As Humans are we that damn Stupid?Evidentally some are!

Maybe once we move the StickFlippers in to the peak of the Rut everything will be fixed,GEEZUS!

One more thing bowhunt!

Yup,everybody FLOCK to the Wasatch Crowd!

I wished I knew the Unit as well as AWLB,Lil Beav & his Dad does!

Over 500 Big bull Tags issued, must be the Hot Spot!

As in a percentage wise average bowhunt, out of the 500+ Tags issued, you got us an idea of how many 350"+ Bulls were taken on the Wasatch this last Fall?

IDIOTS, you can only get $175,000 for spidey. The antelope island deer went for $265,000. Elk hunting is over!!! Free range, fair chase is over. Go buy a deer and raise it as a pet in your pasture. This is the future. Screw those wild elk. Just kill them all!!!

As much as you would like to have everyone believe it Cat, you are not the only one that spends time in the outdoors. Very sad what happened to the Deer on the San Juan, but I am glad they are recovering now.

Let me say it one more time so you can understand it, So Listen, WTHU, Pay attention...Using all of your bonding statement that you seem to spew every day. My Hell do you ever try to communicate without saying those things????

-I hunt more with a rifle than a Bow, so back off talking about that.
-I have said in EVERY post, the size of bulls is going down, I have witnessed it first hand.
-There are still 400 bulls around, as many? NO
-You better draw soon, and go enjoy it.
-We are killing too many cows. WHY?

Can you argue with any of that?

Like I said earlier, we are fantastic at killing the biggest bulls, cut tags in half, hunt during the rut, and we will continue to kill the biggest bulls.

Take care Bop, hope you draw. If you do I want to come along. It is sad to plan for 17 years, wait, scout, wait, go with other....and then start seeing a drop in quality.

CAT, Here's the deal Brotha!! Let me ask you CAT, over the last several elk plans can you tell me when the last time
age classes were lowered?? YOU CAN'T BECAUSE IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED!!!

I told you back when KTC killed his dandy bull that soon enough a bull like that wouldn't be enough.. Sure as sshit I was 100% correct.

If killing a 400 inch bull is the only reason you would get out of the sack on a brisk September morning then the PEAYDAY/MOSSBACK philosophy has finally melted your brain.

Soon to be on CATS website

ATTN. THE CAT WILL NO LONGER APPLY IN UTAH FOR ELK. OUR "HEARDS" ARE IN SERIOUS JEOPARDY OF DROPPING BELOW 380. I WOULD SOONER BURN 17 YEARS WORTH OF POINTS THAN DROP THE HAMMER ON A 380 PISSCUTTER!!!!

LAST EDITED ON Feb-07-11 AT 12:38PM (MST)[p]Personally i think that utah is not the place for opportunity hungry individuals......go to colorado if you want to hunt....it costs about the same as ut does with LE hunts......I want to kill a monster bull and I damn sure want to kill a monster bull if i have to wait 15 years to do it. Those of us who have been in the pool a while are gettin screwed over by opportunity, biologists and pretty much the state of UT.

Kudo's to Don peay and Doyle and everyone else who cares enough to grow big bulls and defend them. AKA most guides and outfitters, the evil money hungry butt holes that steal all of the good bulls from everyone else. Last time i checked, only a few people were writing checks to help the wildlife out i won't name names but you can figure it out. Opportunity can kiss my butt.

BTW who decided it was wrong for a bull to die of old age???? I believe b4 the DNR got involved nature took care of that....maybe i'm up in the night but shoot i don't think its wrong for an elk to live a long healthy life then die of old age in the mountains that he ruled.... The same gene that made a 400" bull at the age of 8 is in the regressed 330 bull at 14 years old. Let the dang bulls breed even if they are old less tags=bigger bulls and more elk.

And wiley if your so blood thirsty that the only reason you get out on a crisp september morning is to be able to kill something....you have lost the bug, you just want to kill. Its no longer important to be there it's all about killing something. It ain't wrong to want the biggest and best that there is to offer. It is wrong to want to just kill.....IMHO

Made a bit of an unfounded assumption there, i assumed that you were an opportunity guy wiley if not forgive me, you know what they say bout assumptions.......

BB ya got me figured... Thats what it's all about for me. By hell if I cant pack a $4000.00 rifle up the hill, hear the bulls screaming, hook up my laptop, punch in the ballistics and all I have to show for it is a pissy little 380 bull that ain't even stinky, Then I've been ripped off... Bastards!!! You owe me!!!

Sure wish I had a chance at a Bull like ktc's Bull, that Bull has always been enough in my book, but venture down where ktc got his Bull now ww,there's like 7 EXPO Bull Tags Alone, must gonna be some damn good huntin on that Mountain this Fall, must gonna be a Quick recovery huh?

LAST EDITED ON Feb-07-11 AT 04:02PM (MST)[p] CAT Thanks for the "faxed" brew...

Just wait till these units hit objective, you'll have that Godforsaken burned out pile of rocks to yourself.

It's funny cause when I voted against the new age class plan on the Committee it was because of this very reason.. Once you start down the path of letting others tell you how good of a hunter you are you can't go back.. Almost every unit went up in age class, almost every hunter with max points feels pissed because of the perceived lack of quality. The landowners, tag pimps and guides get wind of this and the money hits the fan.

Look CAT most of the units in the state are well above their age class.. Brotha it's gonna be another couple years till we get DOWN to age class and the tags dry up. Then shortly after that we'll all get together again and really F it up.

By the way I was going to give it one more year before I cash in the points but I think I'm gonna get r done this year before the only elk tag I can get will cost $25,000.00

You and Jim are welcome to tag along

You haven't drawn a tag yet, so we are all supposed to feel bad that you can't get excited about shootin a pisscutter? Quit b!tchin and quit puttin in every year if it's sooooo bad in Utardia! bess.. i am a stick flipper! i just know all you whiny a55 rifle guys would cry if archery(the toughest weapon) got dibs on the heat of the rut for once. (which archery in rut makes more sense than rifle in the rut), but apparently you rifle guys have spent a bit to much time around the lead, and cant grasp the concept that rifle during rut is why all the big bulls get killed! the early rifle hunts are 90 percent successes. move rifle out of the rut, success drops, more tags are able to be given out. more people get thru the system faster....
so ....heck why not just shut it down(hunting) during the rut! everybody wins! the elk, the hunters! no one can cry about another group getting to hunt the rut cause no one is hunting it!
we dont hunt deer in the rut why the heck are we hunting the elk!!!!

Well bess!

Take er easy there, I don't want ya to blow a vein in your forehead since you can't scream in caps anymore to show your rage and doom and gloom news you've been splainin for years!

Just so ya know,I Flip Sticks Too!

Just like RAZZIN the StickFlippin crowd because they are so sensitive!:D

You believe what I've said for years or not?

Anyone actually have a list of verified 400" bulls by year in Utah?

I did a search and found jack squat. Not a member of SCI, P&Y or B&C so I can't simply go look a their history.

I think you're all wrong and the herd has more and bigger bulls than ever. Most lazy slackers just aint willing to do what it takes to go have a looks see. We get another good hot dry year like 2006 and you'll see more 400" bulls than ever, just 4 miles from where you can get one of them big fat Dodges :)

Cheers,
Pete

Well c3!

Too bad you didn't venture down on the SJ from about 02 through 07!

Then you'd know a difference!

c3 i hope your right but...why has the gov tag failed to kill a 400+ bull the last two years? i actually have not heard of any 400 inch bulls killed this year, not saying there wasnt but i have not heard of any in utah.
i highly doubt mossback is slacking on there guiding. if there not pullin a 400inch bull from the gov tag 2 years in a row now it kinda makes ya wonder. Because you know dang well there workin hard to keep there reputation up as monster bull guides. love em or hate em mossback has been apart of some big bulls hitting the dirt and they know how to get it done.
so is it a fluke they were unable to turn up a 400 inch bull with a tag that can hunt for 4 months, 2 years in row now? i hope so

There was a couple of 400" Bulls Harvested this year that I know of,I'm sure there's a few I don't know about!

But look at the 365"-390" Bulls that were not harvested this last Fall!

c3 needs to go to work for the DWR!

Then he can Preach:"There's just as many 400" Bulls as there ever was,You guys just ain't getting in deep enough to find them"
(((Heard the same mentality right from the DWR many a times!)))

Bess,
I agree with you that some things need to change....But C3 has the most level head on him that I've heard! I think what he is trying to say is that there are still 400" bulls out there. We just haven't had the best environment for them to grow that big. I personally saw three of the biggest bulls I've ever seen this past fall on the Monroe. Another buddy had the late tag there...he was on 2 different bulls over 400" but couldn't make it happen. I'm just tired of all the talk that we are done with big elk. We got really spoiled for a few years. You can't expect ANYTHING to stay as high as the elk hunting was forever? There isn't a management system in the world that do that!
I hope you draw your elk tag soon and you kill the bull of your dreams! I'd even love to give ya a hand packin the big stinky out. I'm just tired of all the negative talk by everyone so I picked you to razz a bit. :)

Traditional >>>------->

There were a few, but not many 400 class bulls from Utah. The expo had one from San Juan that was 415ish. Biggest known bull to come out of the state last year, at least that was what the tag said or something like that. I know Pahvant produced one as well. But other than San Juan, I did not see very many large bulls come out of any units... A few big ones came out of the book cliffs (not quite 400s but close), have yet to see any from any other unit...

I have deer hunted on pahvant almost every year in the 2000s, I can assure you there are not as many big bulls on there as there once was. Not even close. Still a very good unit, but not great.

San Juan is still throwing out some big bulls as well, easily the best unit in the state now days.

It's OK HorseCreek!

I'm one that can take the RAZZIN!

Might need your phone number if I ever draw, according to c3 I won't be shootin a Bull out the Truck window!:D

Elkhunter96 seems to know what's happening in the woods a gives honest info about what he's experienced!

Don't really care if I draw or not,Sure I'd like to,I'll be on a Unit or two this coming Fall one way or the other having a little fun with friends or Family!

Sure there are still a few 400" Bulls around, thing that bothered me was the lack of 350"+ Bulls I seen, yes it was a crappy Hot Dry Fall, but still, everybody you talk to no matter what Unit they were on experienced perty much the same thing = Not as many mature Bulls,Busted Up Bulls,Cow counts down & Bulls fighting over a few Cows = alot of Busted Bulls!

As I've stated many times but I don't think many of you ever listen, with the management We've had & the management now in place as We speak will make for Poor Trophy Hunting in the years to come,I've seen some of the Stupidest Management put in place you could ever imagine & the opportunists seem to love it!

Just RAZZIN ya a little, don't get mad!

"We get another good hot dry year like 2006 and you'll see more 400" bulls than ever, just 4 miles from where you can get one of them big fat Dodges :) "

There Bessy, I reposted my quote so you can actually read it! Remember I posted that before I actually knew when all the 400's in Utah were shot.

I'll explain further if you actually care to look at some of the facts of the matter?

Cheers,
Pete
