First Time Elk Hunt

I'm planning on a September archey hunt in Colorado this September. This will be my first elk hunt and first time in Colorado. Since I don't have any preference points, I plan on applying for a point and then picking up an over the counter license. Looking to backpack in a few miles to escape others and absorb the natural beauty of the Rockys....Would consider taking out a cow late in the hunt.

Any suggestions on an OTC unit?

Thanks,
AS

The regs just came out with a map showing the OTC units. Just compare that to a map with wilderness or roadless areas that meet your criteria of distance away from nearest road. Doesn't matter what one you pick it WILL have elk. Now if you get one, that is a totally different story...
I will tell you the secret though.... Hard work combined with a good attitude and determination will get you a high success percentages over the years.

I really doubt anyone will give up their secret honey hole unit for the world to see and if they do say it. The whole world will be there hunting with you.
