Hi all,

Well, overall we had a pretty good hunt this season. I backpacked in with 2 friends and was able to shoot this buck opening morning. At first he looked like a nice 24in 4point, but he really surprised me when his gross score was added up. He had 3 points on the back of the bases that scored as well as the dropper coming off above the pedicle. 42in of mass also helped. Carey Ogden scored him at 186 and 2/8 gross.

My brother Garth and his wife Kathleen both got thier bucks by the second day of the hunt. Biggest buck for both of them...

I know that they all aren't huge bucks but, everyone that tagged out, achieved some type of goal on this hunt. Thanks for looking. Now it is time to find a buck for my dad to hunt in the upcoming rifle hunt.

Congrats to all of you!

Them are some nice ones and the smiles tell it all.
Thanks for sharing such great photos!

Congrats, it looks like you guys (and gal) did pretty well. Can't beat that. And great pictures.

Thanks for posting Jason. Proud of you and all. Was too selective but real happy to be hunting again in a few weeks. (will need the time to heal) It was a great camp and hunt. Dad.

Smiles all the way around. A hunt like that doesn't come around every year so savor the flavor!

Thanks for posting the pictures.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-06-06 AT 06:10PM (MST)[p]That is a dang nice buck! All that extra junk around the bases pretty cool. Carey is doing my buck from this year to, he does really good work, he mounted the elk my dad shot with his bow last year and the mount turned out awesome.
Congrats on a successful hunt.

That really is a sweet deer. It's amazing how some of them get bigger up close. The trash was great. Nice job!

Thanks everybody for the compliments. I watched a bigger buck in this same drainage that I took this deer in during the archery hunt and saw him again 1 week before the muzzleloader season started. Opening morning I couldn't find him, but this buck was there and presented a shot so I took it. My dad and I agree that this was a buck we saw during preseason scouting, but he was on another mountain about 3/4 of a mile away.

On a side note, I choose to pack all my stuff in my pickup the night before and leave straight from work when my buddies got into town about mid day. When we got to base camp, I realized that I forgot my hunting boots at home and would have to hunt in my dress shoes that I wear at work. I thought about calling Sketchers Inc. and seeing if they want to sponser me in upcoming hunts. LOL. Those shoes killed my feet and it looks like I will lose 2 toenails. It was worth it though

Thanks,
oakbrush

Great to see some very nice bucks and happy hunters, AND the optimism on MM.

First photo, flying the SFW hat proudly.

SFW members have worked for 13 years relentlessly to bring as kingfish, "The good old days are in the future."

Congrats to all, come on down to the BIG EXPO Jan. 17-20 and help us make hunting for bucks, bulls, rams, billies and gobblers even better in the future, for all sportsmen, in every western state !!

It's nice to see that none of you forgot to bring your tooth brushes and bleach trays to camp.... All joking aside, looks like you all had a great time!

Thanks Don,

I am a member of the Dixie Wildlife branch down here in St.George, so thats where I got the hat. I have taken it on alot of recent hunts. Here are some pics. It is starting to get a little dirty and sweat stained. It would be nice to get a new one....hint....hint.

Just kidding, I don't mind donating a little money to help the wildlife and sportsman of Utah. It is making a difference in the unit that I hunt.

Thanks,
oakbrush.

Oak Brush,

for all the PR SFW ought to get you a hat,

send me an email at [email protected] and i will get you one.

We are finally raising millions of dollars - tens of millions, and it is enough money to do large enough projects to make a noticeable difference.

Before, we as sportsmen were doing enough to feel good, but maybee not make a big difference.

Now, as you and many others are seeing, right in sportsmen's backyards, they are seeing a BIG improvement.

thanks. We hope to see everyone at the Expo, and lets as sportsmen truly make a HUGE difference for all the criters we love to hunt and photograph.

Don

Oak,
Not too often these days to have everyone in camp tag out on nice lookin bucks....
Looks like you have found one of the few honey holes left..
I think things are looking up and will continue in the future if everyone will do their share..
Congrats to all
