Well I think we will all look back and say the good ole days of elk hunting was 06,07,and 08. Each year has gone down hill since then.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-22-11 AT 01:51PM (MST)[p]well, with that attitude it ain't no wonder that ya 'cant kill a thing' :)

seriously, what the heck are you grumbling about? or is that the end of it? the shining Golden Age of Elk has passed us by??

ha!

LAST EDITED ON Feb-22-11 AT 10:28AM (MST)[p]UtahMountainMan, come on you have seen bigger elk last 2 years, either your the only one seeing them because look at how the state of Utah has gone and the bulls have declined in antler growth, 06,07,and 08 will have had more 380+ bulls taken than any combinations of any other 3 years.

I dont know why I worry about it anyway I will never hunt elk in Utah again. Unless I am lucky enough to draw, but I doubt it.

I do hope I am wrong though, I hope there will always be big bulls in utah, big meaning 370+ bulls and more than handfull of them state wide.

The number of outlandishly huge bulls might be down a bit in the last 3 to 5 years but really come on man. There are 370'+ bulls in almost every unit in Ut!

You're showing your youth if a 3 or 4 year period is your baseline. (Trying not to be too negative or attack you personally bro.)

Not to play the "wise old owl" card here but I remember, in my youth, when ANY bull with 6 points was a TROPHY!

Having hunted big game for 45 years I can tell you that we're still in the decades-of-the-elk!!!!!!!!

My daughter PLANS on killing a 370" elk THIS YEAR, God willing.

Well, I live in MT and have hunted elk for 28 years now. I have probably only seen three elk while hunting that would go over 350. However, I do get to hunt every year here. I have yet to kill a 6x6 yet alone anything over 300. In those 28 years, I have had two opportunities at nice 6 pts. So, I guess it's a trade off. Do you want to hunt elk every year or have a chance at bigger bulls. I know that Utah used to be Mecca, and they have recently opened more opportunity. Pick your poison. BTW, I have 11 points in UT this year and I applied for an archery hunt so maybe ...

I am in 1 unit 95% of the time and I own land there so I am there all the time. I have seen about the same number of elk but the last 2 years I have gotten bigger elk on my trail cams than the previous few years before that.

Of course, I spend a lot of my time several miles off the nearest road so maybe that has something to do with it.

Also, I must say that if I had a LE elk tag and shot a bull with my bow I PERSONALLY wouldnt really care what it scores as long as it was in the 320-330 range or bigger. I dont need to shoot a 360 inch bull I am not looking to get in hunting magazine. Having said that, I have seen enough 350 inch plus bulls the last couple of years to know that they are available to be had.

My concern is the deer herd, like everyone else. The elk seem to be doing great based on where I go and where I look.

I kinda liked the 80s and 90s when guys would look at ya and say, "You can't kill anything with that" [bow]

I could draw a NM tag every year, an Arizona tag every 4-5 years and hunt just about anywhere in multiple good states with just buying a license
