Alright guys I know you are all about the mule deer and so am I. I think i am going to try something this year. I visited a friend of mine up north in Moscow, Idaho. I was amazed at all the whitetail i saw up there and man did that get me interested. Before I dedicate myself to that I just wanted to see if anyone has anything to say about that area. Potlach is the only area that has been mentioned of and another thing is that there is alot of private land. So if anyone wouldnt mind sharing anything that would be awesome. Thanks Guys!

This one came out of that area last year.

your website concerns me a bit, what an approach, I'd rather love 'em into the kingdom then condem them...

HH I heard that buck will not be allowed into the book becuase it was a cross between an elk that bred a whitey that was crossed with a moose...

Manny -- I am with you. Ruined my whole day when I found out that I am going to hell.

Well, turns out I'm going to hell too. Turns out I've got some front row tickets to the big show down there being held in my name, just need to go to the window to pick them up. LOL Scott/couesbitten

I never try to offend any one, but it just wasn't what anyone needs to hear, you get more fly's with honey thats all...no offence but God is all about Love and were his kids...

you gotta be pretty evil to end up down there...don't get me going NUF SAID..........

apparently i'll be the opening act at your show, scott
he he he
i am one bad man.

I grew up in eastern washington pretty close to pullman/moscow area. There are a lot of deer there but as you mentioned, most of it is private land. The great thing about washington though was the land owners were required to have signs up stating whether it was closed to hunting, if you needed written permission, or even if it was open to hunting. I hunted all over that area and (at least 10 years ago) there was quite a lot of land open to hunting. And, if you found a nice area with a 'written permission only' sometimes the landowners name, and or number was on the sign so you could contact them. I dont remember if it was that way or not in idaho, though. If you were interested in hunting in washington anyway, im sure you could find some decent areas without too much effort.

As i stated though i havent hunted there in a while so someone can correct me if this is not the case anymore.

I went to school at the University of Idaho and lived in the Potlatch area. You can ask permission to hunt on peoples land or do what I did most of the time which was to get up onto the forest service land and walk real, real slow. The country is thicker than it looks so a slow walk or taking a seat worked best for me. I got a deer 4 out of 5 years that I was there. If you surprise a group of deer sit down and wait some if not all of them will come back to the general area.

Don't know about whitetail, but I'm going to hell anyway so I don't care anymore. Wow, I thought that only god could pass judgement, good thing that website came along. Does the big guy know about this?

Toughcountry,

Sorry to highjack your post. I didn't mean to do that with my signature. I hope you get the opportunity to get a nice whitetail.

And for those of you that responded to my link, I sent most of you a pm.

TC,
I was just having a little fun.
I like all North American big game.
If I had a good place to hunt big whities, I'd be there.
Good Luck!

A good portion of the private land in the area is owned by the Potlatch Corp which, for now, still allows free access to their property. If you head North or East from Moscow you will run into huge chunks of state and federal land that holds deer (think Elk River-Dworshak). Whitetails were tough for me, I did end up taking a 140-150 class 10 point. It was on private land and a knock on the door got me permission. That was 15 years ago, however. In 2000 (?) we hunted the clearwater breaks on some private land. We harvested 2 little bucks and on the way home there was a 150+ class buck standing in the clearwater river on public land. Don't discount the public land. Also, look for access yes areas there are a few in the area. I think farther away from the college you may have better luck with private access.
