Washington Opener

Check mine out in the washington success thread.
That wasn't by chance you and your Dad or father in law or whomever that was moose hunting....that I talked to on the road was it? I was with my wife.

Mark... Come by or call me. You could take a pic of my buck from sunday. We put the tape on him and he went 161. Not a bad way to start. Ky and I are off to the Bennett hills in ID. next wk. till Nov. 5. Then back home for his chiwawa buck hunt. It would sure be a great pic of 3 great bucks in 1 season. I think we have a great shot at 2 more super bucks. May need your help in scouting while in ID.

Nothing yet, close but no cigar. I'm meat hunting this year, so I don't know if you'd want to see a shot of my forked horn monster anyway....

My ten year old daughter shot her first buck. A very nice whitetail but I'm not sure they are legal on this forum(LOL). I can email pictures if someone can post them for me. One shot right to the neck with her .243. Oh yea, and she killed a cow elk in august over toward Wenachee. To date she is 4 for 4 on deer and elk. 4 shots, four animals. Yes, I am a bit proud of her. I believe she has icewater flowing thru her young veins. And we practice at the range a good bit. Nothing for me yet in state but am off to Wyoming for a nov rut hunt and waiting for late archery for deer and Elk here in Wa. Next year she'll join us on our non-res apps.

My hunting has been very dissapointing so far. Saw a total of 3 deer in the Chiliwist!!! I hunted HARD for 2 days. During the same two days I saw 150 deer and 12 bucks last year. I guess the fire has the deer scattered??

Saw 7 deer last night in the Umptanum unit yesterday, 3 lil bucks but nothin legal. If anyone has any hot spots they would like to share around the Ellensburg area I would appreciate it. Good luck!

i scored on the opener. with a big 4x4. i will post some pictures a little later. my buck is 25 inches, has 3 inch eye guards and a couple little kickers. not bad for opening morning:)

nope, dont think that was us that you talked to. what unit were you guys in?

Opening day i seen 6 bucks, two i couldnt get close enough to see how big they were and a doe blew them out. then the other 4 one might of been legal but wasnt 100%, then sunday im walking through some sage brush and jump a 3pt but he never stops so i took two shots at the back of his head and missed then i saw 3 more bucks which i think were all 3pt and they go over a little ledge and I haul butt over there and im just getting down to where they were and I hear BOOM from the road below me, a guy driving up the road shot one of them so he flags to me where they went and i head down there and i get down in the timber and a 3pt head pops up and hauls a$$. That was my weekend, least i saw 10 bucks. saw two does today.

Ellensburg, i was in the umptanum saturday.

161" huh? You were right, that was a surprising buck. Congrats again!

We had walked out of a gated area and were walking along the road at Pettit Lake, over by Kalispell creek. I thought that might have been you. We were just taking moose pics, or trying to anyway. Saw more whitetail bucks than bulls.

how many moose did ya end up seeing in there? we were up in harvey creek again, on friday morning we were calling and had a bull answer us and start coming in, so we called again and once again he keeps on grunting and coming in. we are thinking awesome, finally some action. then about 30 or so ravens come and land in the trees around the meadow we were at and would not stop squaking and after about a half hour of it we left. the next morning we caught a cow and a couple calves out in another meadow, but no bull with them.

I was in the Umtanum, also. I didn't see a single deer. Probably because I was looking at the ground too much. I found a five point elk antler, though! Here are some pictures I took of the antler and Umtanum creek.

Sweet antler DUDE! I found a matched set just at the top of the hill before diving down in where you are in that picture, right off the road. That was HOLY COW. 15 years ago. There is a nice rattlesnake den straight ahead in that picture just about where the left margin meets the timber. GORGEOUS pics.

We didn't see any in the Washington side. I was amazed but you could read by the moon so figured that was our problem. I went where there was pressure and where there wasn't any. Just a lull in the action. I blamed the blue skys and moon. Now should be killer. I called a nice one in in Harvey two and three years ago. Different moose. They are def. in there. One guy shot a nice one on the pavement down at the bottom. Not my kind of hunting, but he was happy. That does get alot of pressure, but boy isn't it pretty country. I always expect to see a Grizzly standing on that brushy hillside by the meadows.

I hunted up near Twisp and Winthrop. The crowds were heavy for the opening weekend but died off alot by early this week. The hunting was tough with about 95% of the deer seen being does. I did finally end up taking a smaller 3 point on the 5th day. That was the first legal buck I saw all week. He was in a group of four bucks. I will post a pic later.
Also, my friends nephew took a 3x4 on the opener first thing in the morning.
