I have heard from some people that colorado changed the way they do there draw? Is it true that if you have more than 5 points you can put in for a draw that gets you a chance at unit like 201, 2 ,10 and other top units? I heard that the cdow is putting a few tags away for the top units and if you have 5 or more points you can put in for this random draw. IS any of this true? If so is this avaible for non- residents and residents?

I could not find any thing about this draw in the new colorado regulations book I got in the mail!

Has any one else heard any thing about this?

ya, I believe its called the hybrid draw.. both res and non 20% of the tags will go into the draw.. for unit with a three yr avg of 10 pts.. res points.. that is..

its on page 4

The way I understand it is if there is a unit that requires 10 or more points for res to draw then up to 20% of the tags will go into this drawing. To qualify for the drawing you must have at least five points. It is available for res and non res but in most cases the non res quota would have been met.
On page 4 of the colorado regs you will find a list of units that will go into the drawing this year.

20% go to hybrid, of thse, 20% go to nonresidents. 1/(.2x.2) = 25. So you need a 25 tag minimum quota for a single nonresident tag to be issued to hybrid. Your best guess at quotas is to look at last years tag numbers.

So if i were to put in for this draw, and i got very lucky and drew, do I get to choose what unit I want or do they pick one for me?

You still have to select your unit, they are listed in the brochure. The Hybird system is all consolidated with dates, seasons and species in one area of the regulations. The actual application is no different, you are just eligible (if you and hunt qualify) to draw a tag earlier than max points. It is similar to UT, WY, etc... draws.

My wife's sister drew a hybrid tag in unit 10 last year. She had 9 points. From what I was told by Meeker CDOW there are not enough hybrid licenses for a non resident to qualify. Sorry.
