No question that I will hunt with BTO if I ever get drawn for there.

Hey Elk11,
Since you are new I will tell you if you want to contact someone on this site you just send them a PM (Personal Message).
So if you want to contact 450 find a post from him and go to the envelope icon at the top of his post. You have to be logged in, but if you click it, you will get a box to send him a message, much like an email.
Good luck on drawing. I have top points for sheep, but I am still not counting my eggs because they may not hatch.

Plus 1 for the BTO boys.....Honest, hard working and straight forward......As for you littlebighorn....aka the luckiest man I know, I hope your egg was laid by a golden goose! I want to go on another sheep hunt!

Thanks so much for the feed back. Sounds like BTO is one of the premier outfitters on the unit...

I hope to have the opportunity to hunt the great unit....

Any other feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again

Another vote for BTO. I think Todd and his brothers would be give you everything they could to make your hunt successful. They'd also be fun to hunt with.

+1 BTO.....-7 Mossback... Go with someone who knows the unit and the mountain, elimate the finders fees and go with BTO!

BTO knows where all giant bulls are. In the back of Mossbacks truck.

p.s. you dont pay a finders fee to hunt with mossback dogshed.

Thanks so much guys for all the info ... My fingers are crossed ...I will let you know on the tag...

Elk 2011,
Adam Black with BTO here. Good luck with the draw. If everything works out and we have an opening we would love to work with you. However, you need to know you would be in good hand with any of the Mossback crew or Utah 450 and the SJO boys. All good men that know the mountain and have a passion for harvesting big bulls.
One thing is for sure, if you draw, you'll be hunting some of the most beautiful country in the world.
Good luck,
DocVideo

BTO knows all the good spots for eating too. LOL
Like Adam says you can't pick a wrong one, BUT the BTO boys live right there and grew up right there. So they would get the nod if it was me having that tag.

Gator is right on--secret eating spots are what we look for and specialize in--its all about the view while your eating the grub:).

As Adam pointed out, lots of good outfits and men down there willing to help guys out. Its a great place and still a great unit for big bulls.

Sounds like if you want a GREAT hunt, with GOOD guys, go with BTO Guys.
They can either find a huge one, fair chase, or steal one out of the Mossback truck.

I wonder if their secret eating spot is the Mossback trailer?

Killing a giant elk on the San Juan should be your goal for sure, hunting with BTO guys will give you that, and some great guys to hang out with.

The bull your going to shoot, his dad will be born this spring so you need start scouting. LOL
The point thing is just crazy, I feel your pain with 12 deer points in AZ.

I'm a year off of max for elk. I cornered Todd at the expo and asked him some questions I've been dying to ask.
The answers I got were honest, He was down to earth and said honestly that there are a couple of 400 bull on the mountain and didn't promise any score on anything. He said we don't work in terms of inches. We find the bulls and if you like it you shoot it. Good honest guy. I have talked to a few that have hunted with BTO and they all said they would hunt with them again. Plus you get good video as part of your hunt.

I spoke with the BTO guys and i agree they are a class act. I will definitely consider them if i have the opportunity to hunt on the San Juan unit.

Thanks again for all the feedback

You won't go wrong with BTO. I connected with Todd when my Dad drew a San Juan muzzle loader tag a few years ago. They were really great with us and very patient as we looked over so many bulls. We had such a great hunt and finally found the one! I would recommend these guys to anyone.

I hunted with BTO in '05 when I drew the San Juan. I went in as a "client" and left my hunt as a friend, with a friendship that has lasted to this day. They helped me realize that there is so much more to a hunt than a score. Even though they put me on the animal of my dreams and I was successful bringing him home, I came away with memories that will last a lifetime. As stated earlier, I can replay my hunt anytime I want to hit play on my DVD. The guys made it so an average Joe like me could have a world class hunt. No question who I would go with.

Thanks if i get the tag and they are available i am going with BTO.

Thanks

LAST EDITED ON Apr-12-11 AT 08:36PM (MST)[p]Here is my bull from a few years ago. I went with BTO and had a blast. Travis made me pass on bulls that I wanted to shoot. He just kept telling me we could do better.
And we did.

Passed thru there the other day. Looks like a good amount of snow left on the mountain so the spring grass should be good.
Hope things keep clicking in the right direction and it a great year down there.

ELK2011???? rofl....... I totally follow you on the name and seriously think I need to do the same.

thanks for the "help". Maybe todd can call me and talk me into something. As of right now i'm about to turn my back on the entire san juan scene. I really just cant see paying so much money and put anothe 350 rack in the floor of my garage. Heck, if some mm'ers would come by my house I'd gladly load them up with lots of euros. My house is full and I'm out of room.

Hey todd, if you want me to hunt the san juan give me a call and talk me into it. Doyle doesn't have high expectations for it and as of now I'm gonna have to say no unless you convince me otherwise.

SJ i did talk with you guys and you also confirmed my suspicions. I think all NR's will be pulling out of utah for a while. That's good for the residents as they will most definitely be getting cheaper tag prices.

Good luck to all, and thank you all for your offers and help.

No on the hair yelum. He retired from hunting drug runners and I guess decided to clean up his look a little. I got to pick which pics went where, so I couldn't resist putting that pic up.

There will be a few guys that kill a bull 380 and up. There will be as good a chance on the san juan as about anywhere in utah. I can think of a few san juan bulls that will grow up in the next year or two and I am sure others have a couple on the brain as well. Good luck to everyone with their hunts this fall!

Definately go with Todd Black. Black Timber Outfitters know the difference between a 350 bull and one that's 380. Can't go wrong with them. Plus they have great video footage! When I draw again I'm going with Todd.
