The DWR has just posted the suggested permits numbers for 2011. The permit numbers are up overall. Some areas like the Nebo have decreased by 25%.----Its about time. The Wasatch has seen a huge increase.

I hate the spike tag increase unless they do it by unit like they do limited entry. I put in for Willard Peak Mt. Goats which went from 18 to 39 tags this year. I may draw that.

15,000 Spike tags?? Unbelievable!!! Take, take, take....

I wonder if they realize a 350" bull was once a spike lol....

I hope these are posted if not oh well, i'm assuming they are.....recommended cow permits on the wasatch....hold something cause this will kill ya!

3350 recommended antlerless tags.....estimated pop on the wasatch 7700 elk thats 44% of the numbers......

Anyone who has any interest in ever having quality hunting on wasatch again, needs to be at the central rac meeting April 19th Springville junior high i think......

Argh! They are going to decrease the SW Desert NR archery by one. That means only one bonus point permit this year :(

I'm with you Bull. They decreased the pretty much guaranteed tag I was going to get by one so no guaranteed tag and a long shot for the random tag. FRUSTRATING!!!!

Enjoy those steaks now cow killers. It may be the last elk steak you eat off the Wasatch for a while. You would think they would learn their lesson from the Fish Lake disaster.

It's always an adventure!!!

REALLY sucks for the Wasatch..

One of my favorite units about to be SLAMED!

The Wasatch will look more like the type hunting (quality) on
Nebo after this round of mega tags......

Wasatch Tag Numbers (OUCH)

I wash my car, and it rains. I finally get 16 points and put in for my guaranteed ?Premium? Wasatch LE Elk tag and they give the tags away like popcorn. Sorry guys and gals this is all my fault with the number tags recommended for the Wasatch. My bad.

What are we worried about the wolves for. Our so-called friends negotiating tag number deals with the DWR are going to wipe out our elk for us. I guess that the good news is the wolves won't have anything to eat once they get here.

While they're at it.....I seen a few extra big billies in a couple of our Mt Goat Units. Why don't we give an extra 15-20 goat tags in each unit and wipe them out while we're killing all elk in the lower country.

RE: Wasatch Tag Numbers (OUCH)

Well they cut back tags big time where I was putting in, thats ok with me. At least some of the bulls will get a little more age on them I guess!

RE: Wasatch Tag Numbers (OUCH)

paitently, don't worry bout the number of tags this year, if you draw your in for a hell of a hunt!

Worry bout the antlerless tags, thats what will wreck it all for years to come.....

600 tags really aint that much all things considered it means 400 bulls killed roughly the snatch can handle that, and in my opinion it kind of needs it.

RE: Wasatch Tag Numbers (OUCH)

I don't know Berrybaster.. I do like your optimism and I hope you're right, but even as big as the Wasatch is, 600 hunters is a lot of tags and 1/3 more chance of someone walking under your tree stand, or coming up the ridge chasing the same bugle. I was really hoping for the same kind of hunt we had last year on my wife?s hunt but if these tag numbers go through, and as history shows they will, I'm afraid its going to look like the deer hunt did 20 years ago, orange, orange, orange.

And no way will a guy dare leave his game camera out there with a higher percentage of sticky fingers running around.

Not sure what I'll end up doing

RE: Wasatch Tag Numbers (OUCH)

Thats something that the snatch has had a problem with since about 300 tags, we deal with it every year.......if you wanna be alone on the mountain ya gotta go south......i still stand by what i said, with the highest published elk population in state, the largest amount of varied terrain to hunt, and the quality of elk available, the wasatch is the best all around hunt in the state right now.

No matter what patiently your gonna have people to deal with, we have been busted more times by chicken hunters and horseback riders than we have by guys with LE.....its the nature of the game on this unit.......

I personally believe that someone who does their homework, is patient, and knows where to hunt, has the best chance at a truly monster bull on the wasatch right now.

Ask me that next year and i'll probably have a different opinion but right now, i think this is it.
