NV Elk Shed Story

Thought I would post this saga of a found antler. In April 2009, I was out hiking in really thick pinon-juniper country...and, after the usual 4-hr. WMAO that I call a "shed hunt", I was amazed to find a large 7-pt. Left side elk antler (probably one of the largest I'll ever find) I showed it to a few friends and then hung it in my garage. Well, in July a young feller came by with what he thought could be the match. (I tried myself several trips in the locale of where I'd found the shed; I'd had a few offers to part with the antler, but didn't want to give it up). At first, didn't quite seem a match... gaps between tines were different, and so were points...plus it was amazing the distance between where the sheds were found. I was still somewhat reluctant to part with shed, but I got what I thought was fair-enough trade in antlers (the kid was so excited, I probably coulda held out for a pile!)He told me someday he was going to have them mounted, and I said if that someday came, I'd like to get a pic of me standing by, but didn't really hold sway that might happen. But imagine my surprise when the sheds are on a nice looking mount on the 2011 RMEF Elk Tour... as a "415 Gross" Nevada bull. I was glad to find where they ended up, and glad that a lot of people got to see them on a mount. I have yet to hear of a "400" bull being harvested around here, so, what's more, I think the "Perlite Bull" is still 'out there'!
