LAST EDITED ON Apr-15-11 AT 12:50PM (MST)[p]First hair lipped elk I ever laid eyes on....... :)

Congratulations!

that head is ready to pop! look at the eyes.. it was left out in the hot weather..

Wells guys sorry about not sharing the story. Shot him the last night of the season. Came back the next morning with a crew to pack em out and couldn't find him. I was up hill on a steps angle when I shot him so my arrow placement was high so ya know you never get slot of blood trail with that. We looked all day say an elk a ways off that looked like it had blood on his side so we went after him just to find out it was mud. It was 80 degrees that day. I went back the next day with my wife to look some more and we found him 300 yard down the canyon from where I shot him. All bloated and the dogs had been on him. I was not real proud of this so I didn't post pics very soon then as I got to thinking it is a trophy and to show my respect to the animal and share it with you guys.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-20-11 AT 08:10PM (MST)[p]This might open up a big can of worms but if I don't open it someone else will. DId you have to jump through a thousand hoops to be able to tag your bull? I don't know the rules in ID but most states if you don't recover and tag your animal on the last day of the hunt, you can not take and tag the bull. I know that someone on MM in AZ I think it was, had to go through alot of headache to recover his bull after the season was over with the fish and game and he finally had to go to the auction and buy his bull. It's a crap rule and I hope that I am never in that predicament but just curious how it was for you.

I didn't hit a check station on the way home and just filled out my harvest report and that was that. At least its all I know to do. I haven't heard of anyone having problems in the past. I took pics of the coyote damage incase I ever had any questions or problems.

That bull reminds me of Alf. No but seriously, Its a great looking bull, just too bad you couldnt get on him the next day and save the meat.

Great looking rack on your bull, sorry to hear he spoiled.

So what was the story behind the hunt. Did you call him in or get him at a wallow? Jonesin for a good elk hunting story while I'm intercoursing the canine here at work.

DO NOT FEEL BAD!!! You did a great job of keeping after it and finding him. It happens!!! Yeah it sucks to lose meat and you never want it to happen but it does. The important thing is you found your bull and you didn't do like some/most would and hunt another bull. Great job on a nice bull!

Original Post bull was shot second to the last day! Post# 15 bull was shot the last night of the season! Hmm?

Tikka---I hope the discrepancy between the dates of the two posts was just a typo, but it would have still been shot within the season dates either way. I've never heard of this deal about tagging an animal after the season closes if it was shot within the season dates and didn't have to be shot again to put it down after the season ended. I have never seen that in the game laws of Wyoming where I hunt, but I'm sure going to look into it and make sure if that's the case that I don't violate the law. The only time I've been involved with something like that would be back in 2006 when my buddy shot a nice 6x6 the last afternoon of bow season in Wyoming and we didn't complete backpacking the majosity of the meat out until the middle of the day after the season had closed. Very interesting post about that and I will be doing some investigation as to how it works in Wyoming.

Ok guys I guess my stories kinda miss match. Excuse me for writing this 8 months later. I didn't break the law and that's all that matters. If you are really that worried about this simple post here then i guess you dont have enough going on and should maybe get some hobbies i just wanted to share with everyone my bull. To clarify I shot him on the second to last day. We went to pack him out the last day of the season. I remember this because no one else brought their bows and 1 of them could of had a shot at an elk. We didn't find him that day so I went back the day after it was closed and ended up finding him. I really had to rack my brain to remember and remembering that one of my buddies could of shot an elk but forgot his bow is how I remember that we were trying to find him and pack him out the last day just couldn't find him. I hope that makes sense for all the naysayers and skeptics. I hope you never have to be in a situation like this cause it sucks, the last thing you need is people suggesting or thinking that you have done something wrong or dishonest.

Nice job sticking with it and locating your bull. sucks about the wasted meat. Do worry about the ethics police, it gets a little old sometimes.

Nice Bull man, bummer about the meat, but $hit happens. (don't even respond to the whiners and nitpickers, it's never ending and not worth your time....)
