Heading up for the last week of the season and was wondering if the Santa Rosa's have any snow on them? If so, how much up top? Can you still get around? Also, are the bucks showing any signs of rutting yet? any info would be great.....Thanks

I was in Orovada last Thursday on business. Mountain was clouded in but there was a little white up high. At that time I don't think it was what you would call a lot of snow and I doubt it would keep you from getting around. But, as I say, the tops were clouded in and it was hard to tell.

There is no snow right now, although I can't see all the NE sides of the peaks from my work. The forecast has no storms for the next week +. Temps are cold in the mornings(22) and warm during the day(60), at least in the valleys. My observation is the bucks start rutting around Halloween in this area, so you should have a good hunt even w/o the snow. I'm somewhat familar with the area, so if you PM me I could give you a few ideas about where to start looking. A co worker of mine who is pretty familar with the area told me a couple of months ago that most of the deer he's seen were summering at lower elevations and on the Southern part of the range.

Good luck with the snow it will take a lot to get results, no need to go real high either.
You should have a good hunt.

I'm heading down to hunt the rest of the season also. a buddy took a nice 31" buck in the muzzle loader season up in the wilderness and he said most of the good bucks that he saw were real high. that was a month ago so I'm hoping they've come down a little and the hunters have thinned out some also, we'll see.

Huntingdude, thanks for the reply, I sent it to Cosa. Good luck where you going to be......and what do you drive.....?
