I just drove throught Yellowstone yesterday. There was an old couple pulled over so I did, too. He said that he was looking at an elk that still had its antlers on. I pulled out the binos and he was a mature bull with two brow tines and about 15" of main beam on both sides. I gave him my binos and told him that these were "fuzzy" antlers and that the elk were already growing new ones.
BTW, I drove from Gardiner to Tower Junction and saw 750-900 head of elk. I haven't seen that many elk in the park for a long time. I would love to find some Parvo virus's and take them out to lunch : ).
