I have been messing around with my mount adding some greenery and a few things, figured I would post a pic. I want a 7-8' fall aspen tree behind him, but only found 1 place online that sells what I'm after ($350 or so), anyone have any cheaper ideas?

the horns at the base add some nice class. thats a dadny bull to.. did you look into van dykes or other taxidermy catalogs

LAST EDITED ON Apr-30-11 AT 09:44PM (MST)[p]I would go to a Craft store like Roberts, or Michaels (or make your wife go for you) and see how much their artificial leaves and branches are. I know they sell them because my wife spends way too much money there and has purchased similar items.

Maybe find a tree you like and cut it down, leave the branches and remove the leaves and substitute it with the artificial leaves. I know it will dry out a bit, but overall I think it might work. Probably a lot of work and may not turn out that great. Who knows?

Anyone else tried something similar?

Beautiful bull. Why not cut a decent sized aspen with branches and place the trunk behind the pedestal or add some aspen boughs to the side and front of the mount. Either way, it would make for a beautiful display.

Looks great!

Ya might have to buy a pole and then add some color to it plus go to the craft shops mentioned above and get some fall leaves/branches.

I used 'em on my fighting bulls pedestal mount and it worked out fine.

I have had to custom make most of the aspen tree's for my customers. You can find aspen leaves at research mannikins, but they still need a little work to make them look right. I believe that there are also a few of the silk flower manufacturers that sell the leaves to make tree's. You might try a search online. On a 7-8 foot tree you will probably have a hard time getting anything real looking for under $350.00.

Why don't you put a tall skinny x=mas tree back behind it then take it out at x-mas time and kill two birds with one stone just a thought.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I'm liking the tought of cutting a real quaky stripping the leaves and attaching the artificial leaves to the branches. The pedastal is the center of a cedar tree where it starts to branch out turned upside down (top side on the floor).

Cutting an aspen is the way to go. If you are replicating the scene when you shot him and they had leaves, just buy the foliage from taxidermy supply. Otherise, another look would be without leaves as when I took this buck. The trees have been in my house for a few years and they have not changed since I cut them. In fact they bloomed for a bit :) once I brought them in!

Ruttin, that is sweet? I think your right real is the only way to go. After seeing yours I don't think that I even want the leaves now. I do however now want to create the ground around my pedastal with the dirt, rocks, sage, ect. Thanks for the pic. I will be whacking a couple of my neighbors trees down late one of these nights when they are sleeping.

I got 364 gross out of him, can't remember the net but not much deduction. I was looking through Rusty's Utah Record book and he would be pretty high for Utah archery so I may have to get it official one of these days. I wish his fronts and thirds would have been a little stronger to match the backs, but I was super happy with him though.

Dude, you need to get the wife to clean out the return vent. lol
Or replace it like I did.

You should have some initials carved in those tree trunks to make it really stand out...nice display that you have though.

I'd leave it like it is or accent it with a real piece of tree.

I'm more of a minimalist when it comes to adding stuff. More often than not it ends up detracting or distracting. I really like the pedestal with the moss and small plants. For me it keeps the focus on the bull.

I'd get rid of those mini christmas trees you are messing around with.

Again, gorgeous bull, love that devil point.

Who did the taxidermy?
