Wasatch tag drawn

My daughter drew a Wasatch rifle tag!

We figured she would draw because of her points and with the increase in the tags on the unit. We're holding out for a 400" bull! (that's measuring the antlers and the belly girth squared!)LOL

This is the same daughter that drew the desert sheep tag 2 years ago and the pix were posted here on MM.

She's done for awhile in UT.

Good luck to all with the permits you want.

Zeke

Congrats to your daughter. Hope you have another amazing hunt with her!

My daughter turns 12 this year, so I'm looking forward to this fall (although it doesn't look like I've been hit on my CC for Utah).

Zeke,
You forgot to mention that she also drew a FREE DALL SHEEP hunt in the NWT as well! If you don't take her to Vegas while she has the hot hand, I am kidnapping her and making her roll the dice for me!
LOL!

Way to go Jess!

LMAO. I guess you're right. If she wasn't in Pinedale Wyo I'd take her to Vegas today!

Thanks for all the kind comments on behalf of my daughter.
Most guys on here are pretty supportive.

Zeke

Her husband is a lineman and they'll probably be there through the summer. They just moved there from Big Piney.
They're keeping an eye on my moose for next year's hunt. haha
Zeke

Congrats to your daughter. On a side note, I would love to spend my summers in Pinedale. The fishing is wonderful up in that area and the hunting used to be, not sure if it is anymore with all the land sharks up there...

Zeke,
Tell her congrats. Yeegads That girl is going to have one impressive trophy display at her young age. I'll be hanging around the unit as well. Looks like I have a $508 hit on my card for one of the premium tags on the Wasatch.

They'll love Pinedale, cool little town and lots of great fishing and hunting right there. Plus its close enough to drive home to see the moms and dads for special occassions. We bought a 3 acre lot up that way and usually make a trip or two each summer. Wish I had the guts to make the move.

If all the credit cards hits are finished it looks like our wives will have to wait another year for their goat hunts.

That is great news!
If you need any help let me know. I kept track of some good bulls most of the winter.

Best of luck!
Mike

All you guys are the best!

Mike, I've enjoyed our blooming friendship and would always enjoy a tip or two from you. Can a guy ever have too much info? I doubt it! Thanks.

As for you Mr P-Waiting, your wait is over with that great premium tag. I think we figured you'd draw, if I remember correctly. You'll have a blast. Keep track of a few elk for my girl!
Ya, I'm afraid it's another year, for our ladies, until they can chase the billies. I'm glad the tags don't all come at once though. I still have a few things to look forward to in the next few years.

Remember, the F&G may string the CC hits out for a few days. I've seen it before so there's still a chance of others drawing great tags.

LAST EDITED ON May-18-11 AT 03:40AM (MST)[p]I am certainly hopping Rick is in Shock and not depression

-----he sure is quiet....

drawing a Desert Ram tag will do that to a guy! haha

Robb

He's unusually quiet. Hummmmmm....
I just sent him a text to get to the bottom of it.
Robb, do you know if he was drawn or not? I do not know but will press him for as answer.

This time of year is either Christmas or deep depression! LOL
Zeke

You guys know better than to call me quiet!
Here is the deal. Robb, I don't have your drawing luck, even when I have top points! And then there is Zeke's daughter! Between the two of you, no tag is safe when your names are in the hat, regardless of points.
So at this stage, my snail paced Cabelas card is not reporting anything in the way of $508. My credit limit is about 285 short of what my balance is, so I am guessing my lucky son is going archery elk hunting, but beyond that I am beginning to think that sheep are not in the cards for this year...at least for me.

Golly gee, sounds like I might just have to traipse all over the woods again tis summer. Yawn.....what a drag. *wink wink*

Love to help out, Zeke! Not sure I can keep up with your clan.

Can you just adopt Robb and I????

Dang it!

I should have called ya to come up to our Depression Party last night!

I am off to Da Gorge in about an hour.....yeh--I travel early! ha

Hookin' up with a fella that drew the BARETOP Ram tag for a hike and get him familiar with the lay of the mountain and Ram hangouts come late Sept...plus another fellow may or may not tempt to travel in this chitty weather!

Adobt us 2........poor Zeke! haha

Robb

Thanks guys and gal,

I have no problem with adoption! I won't even mistreat either of you! Well.... maybe a little when it comes to packing meat!
(that's when you know you have friends)

OK back to reality, I would love any and all help and guidance to work toward an enjoyable and successful hunt for Jessica.

We're enjoying the sweet anticipation of this elk hunt and look forward to teaming up with whomever wants to be a part of it. Thanks!

LBH's son has the archery tag so we'll prob throw in together to scout. I'm assuming but it's up to them. Maybe they want to DIY w/o me.

Robb, good luck with the crappy weather on the mountain! I know you're gone already so have fun, be safe.

Zeke

Cold, snowy, windy and GREAT! trip.

Screwy deal but the fella I was with has 16 pt on sheep/Rocky Ram and he had not been hit yet?

lbh is in the same gig but with D-Ram pts.....Question... has anyone heard of anyone drawing a Ram tag yet?

Between a couple other sites and here on M&M...I do not recall a sheep tag being hit/drawn yet....

Robb

I know the pressures of hopin to make a great hunt for someone special. The ole lady drew the dutton last year and man was it a tough hunt but we finally got her a bull on day 6 of the hunt.
Something i will never forget.

I also drew the archery tag this year for the wasatch and will be planning on being on that mountain all summer long. I would be more than willing to help out any way i can and maybe we can throw a camping trip together and make a weekend out of it.

Robb,
I have also wondered why the sheep draws have been so quiet. I have however heard of a few being drawn and I emailed Shadowhunter about ram permits. He has been contacted by three people with Zion permits, so I guess that means people have drawn but are keeping it under wraps. I think they don't want me sneaking in during the night and stealing it!
Surely I deserve it...Right?

We did get hit for a Wasatch archery elk, so I too will be spending some time looking this summer. I am always open for any help from anyone, as well.

I remember your thread Sniper1----of your wifes Late Dutton hunt----- a 2010 'Clasic Thread' for sure.

Geez---most every elk hunter in the state seems to have drawn the Wasatch this year!

Thanks for the update Rick...

Robb

Robb,
Too bad for the crappy weather. You knew it would be rough though.

With the tag increase I think everyone DID draw a Wasatch tag.
I'm just glad that LBH is going with his son on the archery hunt BEFORE we go on the rifle hunt. He can have them all scoped out for us. I'll sit at home and eat twinkies!
I've tried to volunteer him a couple times but he has yet to commit! LOL

LBH, Are you waiting for me to tell you all my "secrets"?

Zeke

I forgot to add this; My cousin drew a Range Creek Rocky tag and another cousin drew a Uintah Goat tag.

This Fall is shaping up to be pretty good and I don't have even one tag of my own!

Thanks again to all you guys and gal for the congratulatory salutations directed to my daughter.

Zeke

Congrats on the tags. A lot of people in Heber drew. It'll be a fun hunt, just be realistic and enjoy it.

LAST EDITED ON May-24-11 AT 03:17PM (MST)[p]Prism,
Like I said; 400" or bust! But remember I said we can measure the belly girth and add that to the score to get us to the magic number! LOL

You are right, we will try to stay realistic. It'll be up to my daughter anyway. It's her hunt.

Thanks, good advice bro.
Zeke

edit; I still can't spell

:)

Stop and measure a few bellies at the Dairy Keen in Heber and you're bound to break 500" really fast.

Now I know where those 400"rs are hiding!

Good luck on your hunt. I've got a few buddies and family members with tags. Might see you guys on the mountain.

Prism,

I've picked up a few of MY inches in Heber! I'm not quite to 400 though.... thank goodness! I have a few mountains to climb this year.
Good luck to you and your crew! It's shaping up to be a great year.

Zeke

LAST EDITED ON May-24-11 AT 09:56PM (MST)[p]That is classic Prism!
Man I am staying away from down town Heber so my score don't go up!

Zeke, I am waiting on you to find the boy a big old bull and I'll down the twinkies. I could have him stick a few in the arse to slow'em down so Jess can finish them off a week later with her favorite rock buster! And by the way, is everybody your cousin?

Ryan, a Nevada Ram or a Montana Breaks buster is still in my sheep dreams...along with a lotto win! ha!

LBH,
You're right, She'll be using the "sheep rock buster".
I'll tell her you said that. She'll get a chuckle out of it....er.. ALMOST cry! Good thing she got the ram but her old pa could have done without the suspense!

We'll get together and compare notes. I have a few tree stands you will want to know about. The last spike I arrowed was with a group containing a great 330"-ish bull. I had him at 13 yds and had to shoot the spike at 20 yds! When the big bull bugled, while IN the water hole, I almost fell out of the tree!

Zeke

"Rick, you still have Nevada for sheep you should know by Friday afternoon"

That is true---we still have 'hope' for a D-Ram tag this year!

How would it be to only have to send in the point fee in Az. if a guy drew D-Ram in Nv....haha

You guys should have an all M&M Wasatch bull tag camp!

Robb

I'm thinking it would take up more than the Walmart Parking lot. Sure would be a great time.. Although i think there are a few on here that might kill one another if they actually met face to face. Anybody on here is more than welcome at my fire anytime up there.

Sniper1,
That's a nice offer! You'll have fun on the hill at the same time LBH's son will be hunting. You both have the archery tag. There will be some excellent bulls found and I hve a few places and trips in mind so we should be able to help each other.

I can't camp with that many people!!! Someone would surely look down their nose at my 1959 Shasta trailer and my 15 yr old truck! Poor people have poor way, I suppose.

It would be fun to run into a few folks who we've met on the MMsite. We could make some kind of a plan, I'm sure.

Zeke

Hey I wanna be part of the party, I also drew a Wasatch rifle tag. I know i don't post much but coming to this site daily is like therapy to me. (weird huh) I would be a blast to meet a bunch of you clowns.

From the sounds of things I may be the only person who put in for Wasatch and did not draw it. I had 13 points and put in for the early rifle. Congrats to those of you who did, and May you all have fantastic hunts. If you need any direction to an elusive Heber 400"er let me know. HAHA

}}-SLIVER-->

LAST EDITED ON May-26-11 AT 10:58AM (MST)[p]1203sales,
I really think the "party" will be great! Every camp will be MM folks. Just stop at any camp and start yelling in MM code!

I can't attend the party since I would be banished from a MM camping party with my old rig anyway. REALLY, my trailer is a 1959 Shasta!

Sliver, Too bad. I'm suprized you didn't draw at 13 pts, with the tag increase and all. I doubt we'll kill all the good bulls. We only want one 400"er! (or a fat 280")

My son-in-law's dad also drew but he had 16 pts! We will all be doing our best but it will be a bit crowded in some areas.

Good luck to us all!

Zeke,
1959 Shasta, now there's a trip down memory lane. I'm jealous if you really have one especially if it's in half decent condition, but you're probably actually in some chauffer driven 50? long stainless steel, greyhound looking, county singer tour bus outfit with 5 big screens, pop outs on all sides, 3 hot tubs and a elk locating radar dish on top.

I don't know what year my parents had when I was a kid but most of my childhood we camped in a 195? Shasta trailer. Complete with ice box, pipe and canvas hammock in the front, sleeps something like 3 people (but there were 6 of us) and it was built like a tank. Those old trailers are classics.

I wouldn't even dare show up to the MM party in my old 1970s something trailer. It's so old and wore out that I'm leaving it home during the hunt and either sleeping in somebody?s bear bait barrel, or on nights that its not raining, up in my tree stand.

PW
I run with the small dogs!
Really, I do use a 1959 Shasta! And have done so for 35 years!
We had a 23'self-contained and gave it to my almost-youngest daughter. I don't think I used it very much for hunting whereas I've dragged the little Shasta into places that most guys wouldn't take their new truck.
I like to sleep in the hunting country because I'm too lazy to get up an hour early to drive in every day!
We would like a newer one but like I said; "poor people have poor ways". Besides, it has the best furnace of any that I've ever seen. I've melted alot of those plastic orange vests LOL.
There's too much snow to get serious about hiking the hills just yet so I'd better start pounding the pavement to get in shape. We have some huntin' to do!

Zeke

Throw some snow shoes on and get after it. Gonna head up in the hills on sunday and poke around a few places. Im thinking the first trip this year will be the weekend of the 10th of june. Hope it gets some of that snow off that mountain by then

I can verify that Zeke has a 59 Shasta!
It sits at the side of his very nice upper class home to remind his High Rolling neighbors that they live next to a "real redneck"!
I won't say anything about the periodic "bang" coming from the basement. ha.

Its official..... the $508 hit on my credit card was my Wasatch Preimun tag and not my Desert Sheep tag. I just got the email.

Now there is a real problem. LBH's son drew, Patiently waiting and Zeke's daughter all drew. My daughter drew last year and I told them all where to find a great hidden wallow. Not sure who will get there first. Jessica probably would not benefit from where it is but patient and young Mr. Ellison will both be hunting archery. I will help all I can from what we saw. Just looked up Nevada and drew another Muzzy deer tag. So I will be busy for part of the hunt. Good luck all.

Ultra,
Didn't you know that everyone drew who applied! It seems like the F&G must have increased the tags by several hundred instead of a hundred-ish overall! JK

You're just a popular guy for sure since you're carrying all that knowledge. I'll bet we can all get along just fine even though we all have almost the same tag.

I'm thankful for kids who can get tags so at least I can go hunting. Oh well, general deer tag here I come!

I hope you do as well in NV as you did a couple years ago. WOW, what a buck! I'm sure you're pretty pumped to have that hunt!

Zeke

Zeke,
Your right, I believe that everyone that put in for the Wasatch this year drew tags. They must have counted an extra 3 bulls this winter and want to make sure they don't make it thru the hunt.

And Congrats Mr G. on your Nevada ML Tag. Is it the same unit you had before?

As I mentioned Thursday, I already tried to access the Top Secret Hidden Honey Hole but failed for the same reason that they're still sking on Memorial Day weekend here in our great state. There's easily a couple of feet of snow sitting over the wallow and as you know thats not snowshoe county :)

I need to get my ML out and work up a load just in case I make it to the 3rd hunt. I'm still working on the bucket full of White Super-Slugs that we all bought when we bought the guns and even as accurate as I remember those were I'd still like to see how the old White spits out some of these sabot rounds.

I HATE TO SNOWSHOE IN BRUSHY COUNTRY TOO!

We will have plenty of time to scout, yet the hunt will be here before we know it!

Zeke

I am sure they are getting more snow today with all the rain we are getting here in Salt Lake! I took a ride up Heber yesterday and there was only snow up on the peaks.

Zeke and Patiently your are both correct. My son in law came over today for my 25th birhtday party and he told me that he also drew a wasatch tag. I think that everyone that put in did draw as you said. Oh well perhaps we will find a spike or something.

Well..... there goes our ace-in-the-hole since ultra's son-in-law drew a damn Wasatch tag too.
I don't know about you guys but I'm going to put a tracking device on every vehicle they own!
I guess we'll just have to go scout and find our own. At least I'm glad to know that alot of the competition are folks we actually know and like.

I was at the cabis (6600') and we got 4 inched of fresh white stuff... what is it with this weather? The snow is still too deep to scout in the areas where the elk could be during the hunt.

Did anyone else catch that Ultra was trying to tell us how old he WAS (decades and decades ago)? LMAO

Luck to all,
Zeke

Zeke,
I already have the tracking devices planted on Ultra's vehicles not to mention a chip we planted in his neck when he was on the S.O. team so we should be ok.

Ultra, is this the same son-in-law who drew the goat tag a few years back. Lucky youngster. Is it archery, rifle or ML?

My wife and I drove up to Tibble last night to see if any of the upper roads are open. The gate is open so you can now drive to Granite Flat but there was a "Road Closed" sign on the main drag up towards Mineral Basin. I was surprised to see that a couple deer have already worked their way up the canyon to Tibble fork. There is no way with all the deep snow that they came over the Alpine Divide or from any other pass so they must have run the gaunlet up the road.

Yeh,
I crashed ultra's birthday bash and that age he threw out there was his years minus all the ages of the dozen grand kids that were running around his house! The hard thing though is he is still several years younger than me :(

By the way boys, I shot the new 270WSM yesterday and it was inchish groups just breaking in the barrel. I need more load suggestions.

LBH,

Load info: Put the pointy end forward and the flat end with the little circle thingy toward the rear. That's all I know.

"Inch-ish" is a great group without a scope on your rifle. Or, did you buy one for your new rifle? What?

You guys are OLD! I will never be as old as you(I'll always lag a little behind). LOL

Zeke

This post is really going down hill. Kinda like me over the hill. Patient the one that drew Goat was a nephew. This is the son in law that lived in Arizona and moved back this year. He had been getting his non resident points while gone. Zeke I think it prudent to mention here that you are not all that much younger and Little with your bionic parts you are staying young and active. I am sure we will all have many many stories to tell when this is all done.

Hey ZEKE, dont forget to find two more bulls. I drew and so did my old man. I knew I was going to get the elk or the goat tag. Next year you can find me a goat, but for now find two big bulls. Maybe I will see you around on the mountain, if not good luck on the hunt, hope your daughter gets a good one. I will be happy to get my dad a big one, he has never shot a big bull. When the email came through he was worse then a little kid at x-mas. Good luck to all.

Back attcha Mr. Darkcloud!

Have a good one too. You'd better be good to the senior citizens...... like me and your pa.

I'm glad to hear your dad got excited about the tag. Very cool!

We should all hope the wet weather doesn't stunt the antler growth this year. (I think it might actually help a bit, we're holding out for that 400"er....not)

Goat for you next year? Should be fun. We'll be there for that one too.

Zeke
