Are you alone?

I have hunted public land in Northern Utah for 20 yeare now, and I've always had a couple of hunting spots that I was completely alone. No one except myself hunted it. I realized this year that all of those spots have dried up and it has been three or four years since I have been all alone. I still get to areas where only the intrepid hunter treads, but I'm not alone. Do any of you still have spots on public ground that absolutely no one else hunts. If so, tell us what you can about them. Of course we don't want names or GPS coordinates, but tell us why you hunt there, how you found it and why no one else hunts there. I would be interested in knowing if such place are still possible.

I have a spot that is open for public hunting and welcome hunter's. If the wind is blowing from the east (rare) the buck will show up sometime within 20 min. from the end of legal shooting light. The last buck I took there was at 30 feet(118 B&C)(Blacktail). The last one I passed up (4x4, not counting eye guard's)(small buck) there was at 12 feet. The doe passed at 2 feet from my feet(ground blind). Here, most hunter's are at their rig at dark. This is a very precise hunt. Keep your eye's open and you'll find one yourself. Cherish it because thing's change. Happy HUNTING.

I think these places are very rare thanks to the dedicated hunter program!

I've had a few over the years. My last one was a hike up the mountain through timber. I first found it while glassing from another high spot from across the canyon. I had it made for about 3 years. Like Blacktail130 said I had to stay there 'till almost dark, and hike back in the dark.

Then one year it dried up for some reason that I never could figure out. I even went back this year. Absolutely no sign anywhere.

Like Blacktail130 said, enjoy them because they don't last forever.

Yep, sure do! I have taken all of my best bucks in little pockets on public land. My favorite whitetail spot is surrounded by public, Natl Forrest land. I have hunted this spot for 10+ years and have yet to see any sign of another human there. I did quite a bit of map study and boon dogging to find it. You have to go through such a brush choked drainage to get to it that most folks would break a leg before they found it. The surrounding area gets pounded really hard by the rifle hunters and the older bucks seem to know that it is a safe place to be. That is until late November when my #1 hunting buddy and I sneak in there and have out pick of some untouched bucks. What people don't realize is that there are tons of these little oasis on public land. Most folks won't take the time to look for them. I know guys that shoot nice bucks every year hunting within a couple hundred yards of the road. They hunt spots where every one else drives by because they cant see into the thick brush.

I seek out places like this for all the same reasons as the rest of you. Like polarbear, I spend hours looking at maps and then going to check places out for myself. In two seasons, my son and I have taken to good bucks in places where we have only seen 2 or 3 other hunters, and all on public land. Scott
