Archery Manti LE elk?

I drew a LE elk tag in this unit. Pretty happy about that. But living in Oregon it makes it tough to do any proper scouting. I think I'll be able to get some time off work the last part of July. Hopefully I can get over there and do some scouting then.
If anyone would like to stir me in a direction to consider I'd sure appreciate it. I am 58 yrs old and this probably will be a "once-in-a-lifetime" type of hunt for me...maybe not, but with the number of pts. needed to draw in the future it could be a one time deal. So, I'm just trying to make the most of it as anyone else would.

Thanks, David

Thanks for the info. guys. I do appreciate it. Since I will be hunting with a recurve I will need a lot of help! haha

Thanks for the help WhitetailFreak! Kind of what I've been hearing.
I sold my compound about 5 yrs ago and have been shooting a recurve ever since. I think, for me, it is all about the journey and not so much about the end results. In other words if I don't fill my tag because I just couldn't close that final 10 yds to be within recurve range that's ok. Some guys can't live with this. But that's ok. It's great that we have those choices. The reward of killing a big bull elk with my recurve would be magnified over doing it with any other weapon. Just good fun!

Well it's official! Just got an email from the Wildlife Dept. say I was successful...wahoooo!

Snag23,
Congrats on your draw.

It looks like you're getting a bunch of info from other MM posters but if you still need more info on the Manti I can give you a location where my wife killed her bull (rifle)last year. Its pretty secluded and its a fairly easy hike downhill :) to get in to the area which means the meat gets packed back up hill : -( but its really not that steep. My wife and I are pretty close to your age.

Have you ever been in the Manti Unit ? It one of the most accessible areas in the state with miles of roads a lot of tags but.....its huge and there are a bunch of elk and bunch of nice bulls.

You're in for a great time in some beautiful country.

Good luck.

About a week ago 7,000 feet had very little snow, but once you got to about 8,000 there was 2-3 feet. At 9,000 feet there was enough snow to cover most gates. However this past week has been the warmest so far this year, and it looks like its going to stay warm for a while. My Uncle works on top of the Manti, so if you ever need an update let me know.

If ur limited on the amount of days u can take off to hunt the bulls get singin pretty good the last week to ten days! Get up on the skyline, roads everywhere glass down in the canyons. I like te north end the best. Scofield area and on over towards tucker has some good elk. We hunted clear creek canyon. The fork to the right at the old rest area on highway six. Lotsa bulls in there that year. Pull a camper close and hike a mile and ur into action. One of the more bull populated areas.I'm from price so I know some good spots and other guys that could give u better info. Let me know if I can help.

Love here what you know Suave. PM me with anything you got. I'll need as much help as I can get. Hate to have a good tag and not be as prepared as I can be. Thanks! David

Hi David. I'm too from Oregon and have drew my muzzleloader tag this year. I hunted there in 07 with my bud. We started by heading into Scofield resevoir I beleive was the name. I would have to confirm with a map out in front of me. The rut was bout over that year. We did manage the bull in my post "Manti muzzle tag". Tough weather conditions played a huge part. The wind in the quakies made it almost impossible to hear bugles. We had to contend with a slug of muzzle deer hunters. Hopefully you'll have alot less traffic and brush busters to contend with. Hope to keep in touch and see how and where you kill your bull. Like to hear how your scouting goes. Check out my post! Good luck David.

Glad it worked out for you in that hunt. Why to overcome what nature threw at you. I'm counting the days and trying to be prepared for this opportunity.
