LAST EDITED ON Oct-30-06 AT 12:13PM (MST) by browtine (moderator)[p]Here is a picture of the buck I was able to get this year in the Book Cliffs. It has a real heavy unique rack - looks almost half mule deer / half whitetail. 24" wide 4 x 5 with real good eyeguards. Can't wait to draw out again. Congrats to everyone else who tagged out this year.

Congratulations! Would you be willing to share what particular area you harvested him in? I'm only interested for observation reasons.

JET....CONGRATS ON A NICE ANIMAL. IF YOU DONT MIND ME ASKING, HOW MANY POINTS/YEARS DID IT TAKE TO GET THE TAG??? WAS IT A RESIDENT OR NR TAG, & DID YOU SEE ALOT OF BUCKS. PM ME IF YOU LIKE, THANKS YD.

Great looking buck. Just curious, whats up with the bloody patch on his back? Looks like a big ole chunk was taken out of him. Never seen that before.

I had 6 points and drew out. This was my first year putting in for the Book Cliffs, I have been putting in for the San Juan unit for the past 6 years. I'm glad I drew out it was a great hunt. There were deer everywhere. Lots of little bucks but I did see a couple of other nice deer that were taken by other hunters. We hunted in the south part of the unit mostly. As for the bloody patch on his back, my first shot hit him in the front shoulder through the lungs but he got up and ran up a steep hill, I shot one more time and just grazed him right along the back. The Book Cliffs is a great unit, I know a few people are worried that alot of big bucks were slaughtered this year but with the number of deer in the unit there is always going to be more, and if you look hard enough you'll find them.
